Any one have any thoughts on Baracuda Gold Medal cues, good or bad

  • #2
The older ones with the little round brass name disc were solidly made cues and as good as many others out there, even though they were machine spliced and produced in high volumes.

All the titles Mark Williams ever won was with one of these cues, and his was'nt the best example of one I'd ever seen.

Ive had a Baracuda cue for the last 8 years and it was a good solid cue.

Sad to see it go on monday evening

But its to make way for the Mr White's that came today!

Would alway's recommend Baracuda cue's though.

Don't touch any of them made in the last 5 years.

Prior to that they were well made cues, however they stopped trading and only the name continues.

Last 5 years they have been made in China and are very average.

I had a barracuda gold medal cue 3 years ago, it was a gift from my girlfriend, it was priced at $300, top quality with beautiful grain and everything. But unfortunately I broke it in a practice game. then I went onto ebay, and bought an exact same cue for just $160.However the new cue was much softer than my original one,i feel like I can break it with my bare hand. and it was slightly shorter with random grains which i didnt like at all!!!!!!

I have a Barracuda Kirkham cue, i have had it years and didn't use it at first as i thought it was a bit light (about 17 oz) but for the last 9 months or so i have started using it and find its a great cue, i got it second hand and dont know if its supposed to be a good cue but i find it great

The old Barracuda's are not a bad cue at all.
The Kirkham was one of their hand spliced cues, named after the road that the factory was on.

I had a Barracuda Kirkham one piece cue for years. I loved that cue and played the best snooker of my life with it.

Unfortunately it got stolen. I tried a couple of cheap cues but never had the confidence that I had with the Kirkham.

Being from the North West and a pool player I've seen a lot of these over the years.
And as we've said the rule is old ones good new ones bad.

I have a two piece Barracuda Kirkham with wooden joint. Had it from new for 27 years now and its still in great nick, perfectly straight. Would be interested to know how much its worth though as I only use it occasionaly now and it seems a shame to be left in case doing nothing!
