  • Parris cue

    Hiya Guys,

I am looking at buying a Parris cue and i cant tell if its genuine, any advice please. I know it should have the orange glue tinge around the splice. I cant tell from the picture if it has this.

    Thanks for any guidance.

It looks real. Trevor White or ADR147 could help you more on this than me, but I think it is genuine.

Looks real enough to me too from the pics!
Parris cues do sometimes have that red glue blurr but not as consistantly as North West cues do, so not always a give away.

I thought everything looked good, until that last pic of the shaft from tip end. Hmmm...dubious.

I didn't think there would have been a group of chevrons so close together like that in a Parris shaft.

He works the wood, he does not grow it.

              Why a Parris anyway?

I already own a Parris - Classic but its 15 years old (with a few bumps and lumps out of it) so i suppose you go with what you know. Im leaning towards buying a new one then i dont get scammed on ebay.

I asked simply because there are so so many that think he is the worlds best it's comical. I've never even seen one of his cues close up but I have learned a few facts from this and other boards members and owners.

                  a. Just because his name is on it does not mean he made it he employes a few.
                  b. His quality is not as it once was.
c.There's plenty of owners who have found fault with his cues.
                  d. His prices are over the top.
                  e. Lots of pros use his cues, but ask youself how many paid for them.

I've nothing against the guy, and none of the above are my own opinions as i've said i've never seen one but put it like this... Google and read snooker forums and you'll find a-e often mentioned. Then try and find a post anywhere of someone complaining about their Trevor White or Wooldridge cue. I found one once where the owner said his ferell had worked loose thats all.

                    I dunno.
I have a Parris Traditional and its a few years old, by no means a spectacular piece of wood, but the splicing is first rate and is balanced perfectly (to me).
I will say a couple of things, as its a centre joint cue, the joint has moved slightly (not much) so now the grain doesn't line up perfectly and at some point it has developed an intermittent rattle from the butt...never when hitting the ball, mainly when I place it to the floor.
And yes..it is coming from the butt, it does it when it is in 'half'.
Aside from that, its a great stick. However I am saving my coin (our exchange rate is shocking!!!) for a Wooldridge piece of art. One day!!

I agree with wity on this.

I feel that if i want something that is handmade I will usually get it from the smaller guys as they hold pride in their work far more than a larger company. Id have a cue off Trevor but having 3 kids and a expensive wife means I have to settle with what ive got. One day I will make a call to Trevor as ive designed my cue, i know what specs...but its just down to priorities

what i mean is i've seen plenty of parris cues like that so it's not a reason to suspect it's not original.

it's not my personal visual preference but nothing really wrong with having the chevrons close together.

                            whatever rocks your boat...

I guess there's only one way to be sure you're buying the real deal, whichever cue make and that is to buy it direct from the source, Mike, Trevor or Parris, OR buy it off someone that YOU KNOW has bought from them.
Because as we know, the fakes are sometimes as aesthetic as the real mccoy, you have to be wary. There is one guy, from somewhere down under I think, that does trade in fakes. ADR and I'm sure a few more know of his less than authentic merchandise.
