  • Repair needed on a Trevor White cue

    Hi all,

I bought a used Trevor White cue. The previous owner found the design of the cue a little too much for him, and therefore got the butt of the cue painter/coated black.

The problem is the coating has caused a level difference between the shaft and the butt at the joint.

This causes a click when using the rest with extension. I'm also pretty sure the coating will chip off at this place.

I was wondering if anyone could strip the coating off, and re-finish the cue in black, as I too don't want a colourful butt.

I tried emailing Mr White, but didn't receive a reply.

If someone could let me know the approx costs, I would appreciate it.

Trevor is often on here and I am sure he would be happy to make you a new butt in plain ebony for the shaft

Can't believe anyone would do that to a cue of that value ?

I got a very good deal on it because of that! So I can't complain.

Going by the colour at the bottom (where the coating has worn off) I guess I would not like it either.

Anyways, I emailed the chap i bought it from if he had any 'before' pics!

So is stripping the coating, and staining to black not possible?

You should take the paint or whatever crab was put on it off, and just enjoy the cue the way it was built.
Putting a coating of black paint on it is insane, and kind of disrespectful to the cue maker's work in my opinion. To ask someone else on the forum to further mutate an otherwise perfectly well built cue is totally ridiculous.
Your title suggested that a repair is needed on a Trevor White cue, while in fact, it was your seller who had messed up the cue and now you need help to fix his mistake, not Trevor White's.
If you have a new butt built, you may or may not like the balance and such. You probably should send the whole cue back to Trevor White. Cross your fingers, hope he does not have a heart attack when he sees it, and is willing to fix it for you. Postage will not be cheap for you to ship it to India, not sure if you are willing to do that, as you seem to be looking for a cheap deal on the cue.
What was done to this cue is beyond my imagination, it is blasphemy.

I'm as gobsmacked as everyone else mate.

Did the last owner say he did it out of preference or was it to cover up a gash or simlar?

Just re read what was said, so it was from preference. Very strange.

Come to think about it, send it to me I'd love to have a chance at cleaning it up. It'd be like opening a pharoh's tomb i'm sure. I'd do it for free and send you a plain boring old painted butt in exchange.

The title meant a TW cue was damaged and needed repair. Rather apt i thought.

Since TW didn't reply to my email, I was hoping someone else could do it for me.

Now reading your posts, I understand that just stripping and staining is not an option.
I'll try emailing Mr White again.

I willing to spend a bit of money on this cue, as my game has improved using it. The balance has really helped my cueing on long shots, and I seem to have a lot more confidence on them.

And Wity loses the title of most mad cue fiddler!
                          Is this definitely real?
I'm not surprised Trevs didn't reply he's probably crying.
I should bloody well hope you got a lot knocked of the price.

Just a quick update. Trevor did reply .Said he was a bit busy.

He's offered to either remove the splice and put new ebony ones in, or make a new butt.

                            I'll be doing either shortly.

                            Thanks for all your help.

Well as other have said I never know somebody who would put black all over the butt, did the person actually ask for those colourful splices, the person who coloured it black?
