    Hi Gloveman,

The cue was awsome it was in mint condition totaly original.

I have only seen one other, that was quite worn and the guy wanted around £500 for it so I left it.

I was actually offered the cue back about 7 months ago, I could see if I still have the number and see if its still for sale if your interested?

Dave Smith has an unusual Mannock the ebony splices on it are handspliced unlike most Mannocks which as you already know are machined with only the secondary tulip wood splices hand spliced.
Just because its old, doesn't mean its worth a fortune!!

Thanks burwat champ that would be great. I have eight at the moment, a mannock's mannock that used to belong to dominic, three early b+w's with the snakewood front splice, a pre 1920, an ash, a maple and one of the last with a black fibre ferrul but like andrew i have never heard of the secret patent mannock. I do have a John Roberts secret patent cue.

I am suprised ADR I would have thought you would have come accross one by now.

I am not on here to tell porkies though, the cues were made I believe when Burroughs & Watts started to make them.

I recently was told about a Ye Olde Ash cue that has Sheffield on the badge instead of Newcastle or London although I have never heard of or seen one these cues I would not discredit or disbelieve it existed as B&W had a retail outlet in Sheffield at the time so it would make sense to make such a cue.

As we know B & W added the secret patent to a number of cue such as the john Roberts cue and the Stevenson cue and would also add the joint to any cue a customer was willing to pay for including whether you believe it or not The Mannock.

i have seen two or three good copies of mannocks that were handspliced but never an original. if such a thing existed it would have to be after mannock sold it to B&W at least, but its not something i have seen.

Sorry ADR I was confused with which mannock you were referring to when you said you didnt believe that one.

If you meant the double handspliced cue that Dave has I have seen it and it looks genuine but you are definetly right in saying it was a later model, he has wrote an article about the cue on his site and I think there may be a picture of it on the cues and views site aswell, below is the description from the Cues & Views site.

The third is the double hand-spliced version, I have never seen another so as you can imagine this is my favourite. The cue is full length and has an unusual black ferrule which suggests that it might be from the 1950s or 1960s as ivory or bone ferrules were used before this era. This cue too, is full length and the mother of pearl butt plate is a little larger than you would normally see, perhaps the cue was a special order or a demonstration piece for an exhibition.

I know what you mean regarding copies though I have seen an awsome copy made by Trevor and one by Tony Glover both were double hand spliced

I sold a Madame Stebor to Gordon Radford that was described by Andy Hunter as the best example he had ever seen.
Gordon has 2 including this one.

I have just checked the pics of the 3 I have sold and they all had a square badge, a stripey eobony butt with a black ebony front splice. Now if im looking at the right cue, 6th from the right then I would say no.
