Can/has zebrawood been used for splices? i'm looking for a stripy dark/light wood for a large single splice.
Any suggestions and pictures would be greatly appreciated!
Zebrawood, (or Zebrano here in the UK) is quite readily available here in the UK and would be ok for splicing onto cues, but, unless it's finished well, it can feel quite coarse and open textured. When it is finished well, it's a very nice timber.
Another pale coloured timber which has darker streaks and lines would be African olivewood. It's usually a paler colour than the common Spanish olivewood, and, has very attractive darker banding running through it on nicely figured pieces.
It's also, closer grained than zebrano and takes a really good finish.
