Show me your tulips.

I'm getting 4 large tulipwood splices added to my plain black ebony butt.

I need inspiration for veneers etc.

At the moment i'm swaying towards 4 ebony veneers? but have only messed aroung with pics i have on the computer.

Anyone got any beautiful tulipwood pics to inspire me?

erm... call me old fashioned but how will you see ebony veneers against an ebony butt

white then black would work.

You could go on cuewizard and have a play tht might give you an idea.

..agree, cuewizard is fun , options for large and small decorative splices in tulipwood. I tried colored veneer under splice in orange as well, just for the fun of it, looked different...:snooker:

Yeah, i've been on here, theres only so much you can do and the quality of the pics is not great.

no, you're not wrong, but you won't see them at the top of the splices, and it will look a bit weird cos all you will see is a 'gap' between the lower parts of the tulip.

if you did it in white for example, you would see white surrounding all the tulip splice, running right to bottom. look fine.

but do it in same wood as main butt, and you lose the effect cos it won't be visible at top of tulip. well, if you look really close you will see it, but lay it on the table and nobody will notice it.

combination. re-hash old ideas/change colours/woods, , but mostly, speaking for myself, trial and error.

i've spliced so many different woods with different colour veneers just to see what it looks like. some things 'work' others don't.

there's only so much you can do on paper/computer. colours may look fantastic on paper, but stick them together with real wood etc., and it can look sh*t.

generally, i've got a pretty good idea what will look good and what won't, but even today when people send in drawings, it's hard to imagine exactly how it will turn out.

and trust me, people do send some pretty extravagant designs! or as i like to say - 'what the f*ck is that!'

So in your expert opinion? white on its own? or white then black?

also is it easy to specify the thickness of the veneers it the top of the splice?
