  • The best cue you have player ever...

The best cue I have ever player with was made by "Hunt and O'byrne".
It belongs to one of my uncles.
He told me that Jimmy White helped him to order this cue from H&O ages ago.
What makes the cue so different is the quality of the ash shaft.
When I tried to hit the ball with that cue, it felt like every bit of force was concentrated at the cue tip and transferred to the cue ball very effectively.
To be more precise, it took me 40% less effort to screw back for the same distance with my John Parris cue.
The shaft was very solid yet not very stiff.
At the same time, the feedback from the shaft to my hand is so clear, direct and accurate.
My uncle told me that cue makers in the past used to allow about 15 years for the timber to become stable before making cues.
However, not much cue maker do so nowadays.

What is the best cue you have ever player with...?

The best cue I've used is probably my Trevor White - maple shaft.
Love the taper and stripy ebony butt, it was built to my spec so I should like it. I had a little weight added because it felt a little light playing snooker. The balance is still good but I hardly ever play snooker now and I sometimes wonder if it would be better lighter for 8 ball. Not sure how much of a job to have the weight taken down would be and I'm playing the best pool of my life so probably shouldn't muck about with it.

Only other contender an old Hixon with an ash shaft. It was 14oz but potting balls was just so easy and it felt so well balanced.
Wish I could have got my hands on it again to get a copy made in maple or pear.

The best cue I have ever played with belonged to an ex-professional called Dave Martin. It was a Burwat Champion and was simply just a wonderful player. I watched Dave knock in century after century with that cue and he used to lend it to me and I just felt like I could pot anything with it.........sadly he was married at the time and his wife discovered that he was unfaithful and smashed the cue to pieces.......! I think I was more gutted than Dave as he just chose a plain rack cue from a club in the north-east and went on to turn professional with that cue.

My Unique cue. Effortless spin on the ball. I played with a Parris Classic of my cousins which is about 15 years old. And to be honest, the Parris doesn't come close.

I also used the Exclusive & Ambassador models down my local club. At the time I thought it was the "cue" to have but I will never change cues again.

I amazed myself in how much screw I got. I managed to screw from 2 inches from the baulk cushion down to the other end to get perfect position without using all power.

Must say many thanks to Bitter for the cue. Your a TopMan.

the one that I happen to be playing with on that given week, and then also the one that is materialising at the back of my warped and twisited never satisfied mind!!!!!!

Or an old cue I used to have think it was nicked from some club or snother. I used to call it the Dung Twang cue on account of the sounds it used to make depending on what type of spin you used to apply to it...It was an awful unbalanced cue about 20oz, had various bits added to it like splices and joints and sounded terrible if you were playing against me, but for some unknown reason I could play with it
Its not how well you play its how good you look playing that counts!

Dave Martin great player :snooker: should have done a lot more in the game, he had a very short backswing if I remember correctly.

The best cue I have played with was 1 piece made by Robin Cook.

An absolute dream, a close runner up is a maple Trevor White cue that a friend of mine owns.

I tried b4 old cues 1st batch ''John parris ultimate'' without post code, was made more than 20 years ago, made by john himself, this is a very very solid shaft and feel, it doe's not use so much effort and feathering on this old cues, the shaft are very hard to find now

It was an about 25 years old Ions cue, lightweight and elastic but can be used precise like a scalpel.
It is now the old Parris Ultimate that 888 mentions in his post...
I am confused... Oh wait... Maybe I'm not...

The first cue I ever used, an old Burroughes & Watts machine-spliced cue which I used in about 1980 and it was old then! Bent, light, so responsive it was nearly made of rubber, short, thick-butted and rough all along the shaft and yet it played like a dream!! I was about 10 at the time, it's the cue I learnt to play with and I can still remember now how it feels! God, I loved that cue. It nearly broke my heart when I discovered it had been thrown out; even at 10 I knew that it was THE cue.
Il n'y a pas de problemes; il n'y a que des solutions qu'on n'a pas encore trouvées.

Best (uk) pool cue was a Zac custom cue made by Zac, a cuemaker in Brisbane. Owned by a former aussie rep and 2005 player of the carnival at Australian nationals it has an excellent peice of 'english ash' as it was called about 10 yrs ago when it was available and ebony butt with four secondary splices of stripy ebony. Better than any of the Parris cues I ever tried for pool. Amazing feedback and response, you always knew where the white ball would stop.

Best snooker cue was a Burroughes and Watts 1 pce owned by another freind.

I love pool and like snooker too, but have never had a cue that really suited me, and I have tried many

It has to be my old craftsman cue. Hopefully trevor can change that.
