I had a Parris awhile back but couldn't get along with it, so sold it and aquired a 15 year old Craftsman Majestic. Nice looking cue and plays well for me but the quality is not there.
I sent an email to Trevor White afew days ago enquiring about ordering a cue from him but haven't heard back yet.
The bitter taste of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

You will hear back from him, but he's a one-man band and it sometimes take some time for him to find his secretary's hat!

My mates custom wooldridge cue. It's about 8 years old and he bought it off a guy on ebay about 5 years ago, still has the name of the original owner but would have cost about 450 new. It's light and has a tiny tip, about 7.3mm and hit's a snooker ball with the same power as a heavy cue with a 10mm tip would. It's this cue which has made me realize how much difference the ash makes in a cue. The barsteward wouldnt sell it for a monkey

I think as I become a bit better I have become more concerned about the tip than the make of the cue. It is funny because I have spent a lot on many cues before(pool cues) and have changed about 4 JP cues plus soem other cues in the last 2 years.
I used to be very fussy abut the grain, the balance point, the taper, and all that stuff.
Well, I think they are important, but if the tip is not right, then it is just a piece of firewood.
When the cue feels right, it is the right cue, no matter how ugly it may look. But as you improve, you may not like it anymore, and then you will find another one that just feels right.

As Steve Davis used to say: "Remember it is more important to have a perfect
tip on a reasonable cue than a bad tip on a perfect cue."

                        So very true!!

I dread to think how many perfect cues I have sold because they had bad tips on!!

You have with this sentence destroyed my reason for spending a lot of money for new cues...
I am confused... Oh wait... Maybe I'm not...

lol... this sentence doesn't say that it's not worth buying a very good cue.
It just states that you won't get good results with a very good cue if you
have a bad tip on it. So go on with buying cues! And good tips... And fit the
good tips properly onto the ferrules of your good cues!

                            cheers

If I put it that way - and I'm sure I will - i need some more cues to try different types of tips on them in parallel...
I am confused... Oh wait... Maybe I'm not...

Well, these are going to be expensive tips, don't you think?
But if that makes you happy, go for it!

                                cheers
