Elk Master tips

Hi I bought a box of Elk Master tips several months ago and after several tips changing over the months, i realised that some of them are hard and some are soft, why is it so inconsistent within a box, is Elk Master supposed to be soft or hard compared to Blue diamond? And before I stick a tip on, how can i pick a hard tip from the box of Elk Master?

I have the same problem.

What I do is by comparing the sound of tips dropping on hard surface such as desktop.


Repeat the process and pick the tips which drop with a more solid sound.

You could put a thumb nail into the side and see how the fibres seperate, that is one way, it's an old well kept secret! A soft tip would spread more and heard tip would seperate less.
