finger prints - black ebony

Just noticed that during play my cue has this annoying finger prints on the butt. the cue is hand made by Kevin of north west (have to say its a superb cue with great feel!)and has a black ebony butt with single olivewood splice. obviously with my other cue - 4 splices butt - its not a problem. but with my latest cue it seems no Mather how many times I use beeswax or raw linseed oil on the ebony, it only works and shines until the next time I play with it and then the butt looks a bit dull or "dead" where I hold it or touch it.
Any advise will be well appreciated. Cheers.

Thank you Mike (I read on your website about using raw linseed oil for the shaft and thought why not give it a try on the butt as well...) If not using beeswax which a lot of people here recommended, What should I do? Thank you in advance

don't think you read raw linseed on my site....

raw is ok, but takes a long time to dry properly and build up a finish. if you're putting it on friday and playing saturday, it's not gonna have had time to 'harden'. it's also not very resistant to moisture.

i've never liked wax, but i believe there are some good wax based products out now that may help with the fingerprint thing. i personally wouldn't bother though.

to be honest, i dont think it's a problem as such. you want your cue to look nice but hands sweat and leave fingerprints on all sorts of materials. it's normal.

if you had a cheap lacquered cue butt then you probably wouldn't notice but you have a 'bare' wood finish, and a good cue in your opinion, so which would you prefer? i cheap sh*tty cue that always looks sparkly, or a good cue that just needs a buff up every now and then?

Thanks for the replay Mike. I guess raw was in other top cue maker site. but if my memory serves me you did mention using linseed oil on the shaft. Is it boiled you are suggesting?
As for the butt... when I hear it from somebody like you it makes a lot of a sense. btw,you are right beeswax really helped a bit to avoid fingerprints. if it keeps bothering me I will multi-spliced it and will forget about it. for now, your replay makes it easier for me. Many thanks again

I dont get it...what does mult-splicing have to do with your hand leaving sweat mark on the bare wood butt?

I think it is rather normal to have dull spots and such when you have a cue with no hard finish. You can just wipe it down and buff it up from time to time.

Actually, if you just wipe it with a dry towel, burnish it a bit from time to time, the sweat and grease of your hand will form a layer of patina on the wood, making it a bit more glossy. You can try linseed or whatever but they will all come off eventually from being rubbed by your hand all the time. Perhaps if you apply many layers, and let them sit for a long time, then it will stay longer, I am not sure, never tried it.

In my opinion, your hand's natural oil will form a nice glossy "finish" on your cue over time--if you do not try to use a wet towel and other cue cleaning product to clean it all the time--and that is probably the best finish to go for unless you dont mind to use a cue with a hard finish in your grip hand.

My advice is: apply some oil from time to time, wipe your cue down from time to time, buff it up a bit form time to time...and just forget about it.

Or may be you can wear a glove in your grip hand, that should take away the finger print. Just joking.

Most of the fingerprints are on the black ebony, you dont see them on the splices - with my other 4 splices cue i dont have this fingerorints on the lower part ot thr butt.

As for your advise regarding to the hands's natural oil forming a nice glossy "finish", I THINK ITS GREAT POINT AND I WILL TRY TO STICK WITH IT and see how it works.
