Absolutely great input. I’m surprised that you know Gauthier’s background thoroughly. I have to agree yours views that Gauthier was much better innovation than De Roo cues for sure. I even caught some De Roo spliced cues of inspiration were came/ copied from Gauthier cues.

I tried the Gauthier cues and imo it is certainly worth to be collected into the collection. His cues taper were different with any made by UK’s cue makers as usual. I found one good thing about his cues are very responsive with a "feel" and well balance either. I’m going to post some pics of Gauthier’s cues to share all guys here.

I've always like De Roo cues as well, but they have changed over the years (gotten rough finishing on the shafts and thicker taper). I went to Trevor’s maple and liked it better than Kevin. Then I also tried the North West and Dave Coutts Cues, cheaper but value cues. I recommend trying one, I think you will be surprised by them.
I would like to see some pictures for sure.

Deroo basically builds snooker cues like 9 ball cues. He copied the laminated shaft concept from Predator, with a bored front end, even though this concept is actually patented by Predator cue. This caused his cues to have less throw than a regular cue. He also uses a joint similiar to the Gauthier joint, with a wood piloted fit, rather than flat face. And he uses stainless steel instead of brass. He does not use any hand plane; he turns everything on his CNC and metal lathe so stainless steel is not a problem. I dont like how his cues look, just not tasteful at all in my opinion.

Some interesting stories I heard about Deroo: a dealer friend of mine went to him, said he would buy 5 cues to promote his work. Deroo said fine. The dealer asked for a dealer's discount. Deroo said he offered no discount. The dealer bought 5 cues, spent some $6000 CND. He could not sell them, everyone was saying his cues were too expensive. They told him they could go directly to Deroo, and Deroo would offer them a discount on one cue.

A friend of mine needed a ferrule replaced, so he went to Deroo, asked how much. Deroo said it would be $45. He said fine and paid. Deroo told him to pick it up 1 week later. He said okay, not really knowing why it would take so long, but thought may be it was the common practice in the industry. A week later, he drove 2 hours to pick up his cue, was told it was not ready. Went back another week later. Ferrule was done, but there was no tip.

My friend said he could not play with it without a tip. Deroo asked him what tip he wanted, he said tip was extra. The Deroo tried to tell him how good his Moori tips were, and they were $45. My friend said how about just a elk master, he was told that it was not recommended. The good thing was that he could sit there and wait while Deroo worked on his tip, no more waiting one week.

Thank you. Very nice pictures. Any more?
I have seen a 3/4 by Gauthier which features the red ring you have shown on one of the pictures. I believe it is not very common among Gauthier cues to see such a red ring.
Nice snakewood veneers, again, not a very common design, very nice cue indeed.
Does it have his signature, engraved, or signed, or is it just the red ring on the butt end?
I love the leather bumper Gauthier used, he compressed them himself.
Do you have some of his earlier cues, with the red or white joint collar with black rings?
Does your cue have the black or brass ferrule?

most butterfly spliced cues the butt is one solid piece of wood as with many cues with the tradional 4 splices are just veneers that are glued together my friend tom finstad 3 time canadian champion bought a deroo cue with laminated shaft seems he had a great deal of difficulty dealing with mr deroo in other words unsatisfied

the red ring is not common in the early years tom used brass as the bottom ring moreso as added wieght to the cue however mine has a black ring at the botton that is very much unnoticeable also i would to state that if a guy pays a thousand dollars for a custom cue i am sure tom would have done anything you wanted we are talking custom cues

do you want a cue that the butt is made of one SOLID piece of wood or 4 splices glued to the shaft?

In theory, I like a cue whereas the shaft passes through my gripping hand. A one piece hand spliced cue with 4 pieces of ebony spiced to the shaft can give me that.
But in reality, I like whatever plays great.

Great to read about Gauthier. He really does have quite the following here. I've only tried one of his 2pc with the red ring joint. Pretty solid hit.
