  • Softest Tip?

Hi, Can anyone please tell me which is the softest tip between, the Talisman, Wooldridge and Elkmaster, I like soft tips but of the three have only used Elkmaster, therefore I was just wondering which one is the softest.
    Thanks in advance
    S.

if you want something softer than an Elkmaster, perhaps you might like to try a Blue Diamond

I think the elkmaster, especially if you get a real soft one from the box. May not last you very long though.

I wouldn't want to disagree with pj's excellent postings, but if you want a soft tip, I doubt you can find better than a Blue Diamond ... that's the normal ones £2.99 for 3 from JJB (watch out, they have both Elks and BD's on the same hanger) ...

There are "new" BD's which ADR147 sells (and others) which I'm sure are really excellent although I guess maybe a bit harder?

For pool, I definitely like a BD tip ... potting isn't so precise and positioning the cue ball with maybe a bit of spin is ... and soft tips make the white spin!

For snooker, I wouldn't be so sure ... soft tips maybe more "nervous" - probably better to play with something a bit firmer?

i would say the tweeten blue diamonds are the softest that still hold their shape.

I'd say the BD's are the softest too, though I haven't used a BD tip for about 4 years so I can't possibly comment on what the current crop are like.

I found a website once , which tested the psi value and results of all tips , only blue diamond , and elk , would not give there details , so i did it myself , and i conclude that in fact , elkmaster are slightly softer than blue diamond ,when they are shaped to the exact same size , ie the blue diamond is cut down , when in initial shape its slightly visa versa . A talisman soft pro is , still 20% harder than the hardest blue diamond . im sorry i have lost my results but ill do it again some day . in this order . Hardest snooker playing tips , 1 talisman pro soft , 2, blue diamond [cut] , 3 elkmaster , 4 blue diamond , normal . 5 mike woodridge .

How can anybody suggest JJB as a place to buy tips!!!!
                Only a £1 each what a bargin!!!!!
ADR147 will do them for more than a pound less inc postage.
Most snooker clubs sell them for about 50p each.

I stopped using BD because the quailty went awful. I like a soft tip and have been using elks for a bit now. Picking the best out of the box.
These new ones from Tweeten sound interesting.

they are ok im my opinion, i fitted one and misscued halfway through the night and lost a chunk off it, so then replaced it and lent it to a friend who chipped white off the table and did the same. (not blaming the tips for the misscues of course just thought the could have withstood a bit more)

This was all at 8 ball pool as well so not really heavy balls.

too soft for my liking. (pm me your address and i'll send you one, as i bought a few)

went back to o'min water buffalo laminated and all was fine again.

When was the last time you tried one of these, i found them softer then any laminated tip i have used previously and they take chalk very well also.

i'm also getting used to the reddness!

water buffalo is basically harder than pig skin. i have one on my pool cue. the red thing is awful. have you tried the pig skin o'mins?

no but the pigskins are advertised as being the same as talismans so gave them a miss, took a gamble on the red ones and loved the one i had on, may just have been a one off though.

Although my cue is now in kippax having a refurrule amongst other things so i'll have to see how i get on with them when i get it back.

well i'm always changing my tips looking for the "one" that suits me, i reckon i'm just gonna stick to the red WB's from now on.
