  • Buying New Cue

    Hi,

I`m looking to buy a new cue, thinking of spending about 80 - 120 on it. Does anyone recommend any makers that have cues for this price range.

    I`ve had a look about and seem to be finding cheap cues , or cues 200+ but nothing in between besides cues from following which I`ve seen on Ebay;

    Robin Scott
    Steve Taylor
    JX

What are peoples thoughts on the above makers ?

This will be the first time I`ve really spent any money on a cue.

Also if I`m going to spend 100+ on a cue , should I really be trying to go to a shop to try some out ? ( I`m in Milton Keynes where would I go ? )

Thanks for any help you offer

    Kev

Out of interest why are those cues no good ? Also how do you know they are chinese ; Robin Scott doesn`t sound chinese

OK looks like I`m open to some good suggestions then, as clearly my searching has found some junk.

Ideally I would like to get cue, case, & extension within this budget if possible.

With regards to spec; 3/4 cue with extension / mini butt, standrad length, 9.5mm tip, weight 17-19.

I think I would rather get a new cue but if someone has a great deal on a expensive cue I would obv consider 2nd hand.

I would recommend Master cue,O' min or Craftsman. But at this price range the quality might vary u need to carefully select one.Personally I would recommend you to get in touch with Stuart green of www.greenbaize.com.He stocks hundreds of master cues and several other brands.Being a professional 8 ball player I am sure he will find the perfect cue for you.Trust me I am telling it from my personal experience.
      Best of luck

Thanks for the info , although I`m still a bit confused. For example I`ve now seen a Lewis & Wilson cue 4PC+ Ali case for 120 on Ebay.

From what I think I`ve read Lewis & Wilson is not a bad maker ? , is this deal likely to be good ?

Some links to some cues would be great if people have ideas.

this could be ok for you :

            http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/cue-craft-mark...1%7C240%3A1318

price is a little high even with a case though, may be worth waiting to see if it sells and making an offer.

            or this:

            http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ROYAL-STANDARD...1%7C240%3A1318

also this wouldn't be a bad starter cue but it is one piece.
            http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/One-Piece-Hand...1%7C240%3A1318
and you'd also need a case
            http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Cue-craft-alum...1%7C240%3A1318

basically do your research on here on the good cues and the ones to avoid and have a look around for a bargain, if your ever not sure just ask on here and there will always be plenty of people willing to help.

I knew next to nothing about cues before i found this site and now i'm becoming a bit of a cue freak!

I have bought a Craftsman (Panther) a half year ago and i'm happy with it.
I didn't want a cheap cue but ofcourse also not a very expensive one so this was my way out of it.

I don't know how long you're already playing, but if you're serious then i recommand to pay a little bit extra to make sure that you buy quality gear.

As almost everyone has said, please stay well away from the cues you have named above in your post! also if you do some homework you should be able to find a cue in your price range .
My advise would be to play with it before splashing out , I do understand this is not possible with internet sales , but most retailers will not tuck you up over the price lol.
If you ask you should be able to get a playing guarantee for a 5/7 day period.

some to try would be :
