I will be most definatly. I want to get things all right first then I will be doing the whole cue from scratch. I would only be doing it as a hobby though as have no intentions of going into production.

For a first attempt it looks great. There are lots of custom cuemakers in America making cues as a profitable hobby, if the quality is right I can't see any reason why you can't do the same.

Good luck, and also put my name down in your order book! :snooker:

You have no idea how hard it is for me to refrain from making any comment on Keith...but I will try my best to exercise the ultimate self control i could summon.

Anyway, back to that cue, how did you cut and measure the grooves for the splices, did you just use a hand saw to cut it, on the carpet of your kitchen?

Well done for the self control.

Good question there..and I have had to do a illustration to accompany my answer.

First things first. I did not hand saw cut the actual splices, these are planed. I hand sawn the splice inserts (Alot were already provided by Mike) and ill show you why.

If you have a standard shaft blank for example. And measure to say 22inches. If you plane from 22 inches down to Point A on 4 sides evenly you produce a square tapered end. This is critical to all splices you will be doing. Remember to splice top and bottom then the sides. Once you splice the main butt wood in and shape you repeat the process. This time it was 13 inches. So plane from 13 inches to point A, you will do the sides first, splice them, shape them then do the top and bottom this means the last set were top, bottom and sides, this time they are sides, bottom and top. That way the woods cross over each other.

Each wood used for splicing is hand sawn to size and are taperd. So left side for example will be 1-2mm and the right would be 8-10mm. Think of it as inserting a wedge.

As for doing the work on the kitchen floor....blood sweat and tears mate. I dont have a knuckle without missing skin or carpet burns.

                              Well down !
It's very not easy to try, but you made it so good, and it look much better than keith's.
