  • removing superglue from ferrule

had a bit of a superglue spillage when retipping cue the other day. the ferrule now looks pretty nasty as it got a fair ammount of glue on it (around the sides). can anyone reccomend a way to clean it up a bit (worried about scuffing ferrule and cue)?

Wirewool will get rid of it easy and polish your ferrel at the same time. Dont let it get in contact with the wood too much as will take the finish off. Easy as that.

Or, See if you can get hold of a nail buffing board from Boots or somewhere. It's like an emery board that birds use for polishing their finger nails. It has three grades of very slighlty abrasive material on it and polishes the ferrule to a near mirror finish. Plus you can hold it against your finger to stop it touching the wood of the cue.
Live for the day you're in, tomorrow is just something that may happen

There is a product made to dissolve super glues, it is called Super Solvent. Only a couple drops on a q-tip is all you need to dissolve all the messy glue marks on the ferrule.
When you put on your next tip, you may want to cover the ferrule with a piece of tape so the glues will get on the tape and can be removed as the tape is removed.

you might be able to gently remove any excess super glue with a sharp blade, perhaps a stnley blade or similar. It can be easily cut or scraped off but must be done very carefully, otherwise you'll gouge marks into the brass, or worse still, mark the shaft of the cue.

Doing it this way will avoid the time it takes to abrade the stuff off the ferrule, which may take you an age to get done.

On another note for the future....

If you replace your own tips, a tiny droplet of superglue is all that's required. It does not have to cover the whole surface of where the tip is placed, bacause this tiny droplet spreads into quite a large area and will be more than enough to hold a tip.

It's a common problem for people to use to much glue when replacing tips, it's not necessary.
