Waxing my cue

That I have no idea at present, the tins will be 50ml and 100ml, and maybe larger versions if needed.

When taking the old finish of the cue before oiling when using the wire wool would it not scratch the splices or would the oil make them shiny again and remove the scratches,

Can people on here tell me step by step on how to prepare my cue and instructions on how i should go about finishing the cue,

first of all what finish are you removing from the cue?

I dont know its what come on the cue when the new cue is a Mastercue Exclusive so what ever finish comes on the cue when its made

So im guessing it must be some kind of varnished finish and im wanting to use linseed oil

If your using the correct grade of wire wool (think its called 0000, very fine stuff, you can rub back of your hand with it and no pain lol) you wont see any scratches to speak of. Just rub all in one direction (along the cue, not around it !) you may need to do this quite vigorously if the existing finish is quite deep (it wont be varnish on a mastercue). Then rub down with a soft cloth to remove any dust, then apply the linseed oil. I use a cloth, but you could use a small paint brush to do it. Let it soak in for a good few hours then rub down.

Ahh yes, keep doing it until your happy really. The longer you leave it on the darker the shaft will go, so make sure you keep an eye on it. Some people leave overnight, i tend to give it about 3 hours then do again if i feel the need.

Thanks i am going to leave mine over night and then do a couple more coats till happy with the colour of the shaft.

Has anyone tried a woodstain on the shaft or would it be bad to use it on a cue

I have used Craftsman cue wax and i have also used wood dye as can be seen in this pic...
