  • peradon cues...

Hi all, i'm a newbie so this is my first post lol!! Anyway, after looking around a bit i decided to buy a peradon century 3/4 cue which i thought would be a decent compromise between my cheap two piece and spending alot more on something that would be wasted on me (don't play that often and not very good lol) Firstly any opinions good or bad on the cue?? And secondly i'm not sure if i'm expecting too much for the money or i've been ripped off slightly as it was advertised as having a genuine ebony butt spliced in but lookiing at the cue there doesn't seem to be any proper splicing, (sprayed over look like my cheap cue). To me that doesn't seem good enough for a cue i payed £80 for but before i complain i thought i'd get a 2nd opinion so to speal! Sorry to ramble on and look forward to your replies,
    Cheers,
    Dave.

that's what Peradon says about the 3/4 Peradon Century:

"Selected Ash shaft with four point Ebony butt, two light blue veneers, Rosewood inlay and Ebony front splice. Quick Action Joint fitted 12" from butt.
Also fitted with 'butt end' joint and supplied with 6" mini butt."

so you got veneers and a Rosewood inlay, no spayed over look-alike.

My first "real" cue was a Peradon Joe Davis with joint at 12".
The butt and splices were made from real ebony and not sprayed on.

But I was not happy with the cue because of the balance point at 14".
This gives a quite heavy feeling on the back what i do not like. At a "standard" cue the balance is somewhere between 16" and 17" from the back.
I am confused... Oh wait... Maybe I'm not...

The Peradon range of cues unless they make one to order and you ask for it to have an oil finish are all lacqured. Search through the forum for linseed oil and learn how to be rid of the sticky varnished feel for nothing more than £5 tops.

Hi there, new member here also.

I just ordered a Peradon Century 3/4 cue too, found it for £60 on newitts.com so appears to be a bargain. Ive got until tomorrow to change my mind and am seriously thinking about upgrading to the Peradon King 3/4 cue, which they sell for £121

Im really at a loss now, and not sure what to do...

Anyone got any thoughts as to the pro's and con's of each cue?

              Hi im new here too!
Cant comment about the mentioned cues but can comment on the canterbury model which ive owned for about 10 months. The cue feels great and plays fantastic. But after an accident on wednesday the cue split in two places, peradons customer service was appauling telling me I might aswell buy a new cue. No mention of a repair service. So be aware, you will get no help if something goes wrong.

I saw that too on newitts, but decided then that I will go with an oil finished shaft and a cue where I could select weight, tip and others. if I were you and if you want to order a Peradon, maybe the king is a better choice? it's one of their high end range after all.

Thanks guys, appreciate the help. I think i will go for the King afterall.

Not that bothered by oil finish really. If it bothers me after a while of playing i can always redo that myself.

I saw it on newitts too but they were out of stock! I've emailed the company who i bought it from explaining what i considered to be the problems and they emailed peradon direct. Their response is that the century cue is genuinely spliced with the butt being ebony....but the thing is it just looks to me as though mine is not spliced.....you can see where the points of splice has tiny jagged edges where the 'paint' has come away and imo there is no change of wood. But i am no expert, need someone with more knowledge to look at it for me really. Wish i'd come on here before buying as i would probably have spent more money and got somethin that i'd have been really pleased with.

Just got my Peradon King today. Was delivered this morning.

An accounting error their side meant I only paid £96 for it

That said, i can see why people have mentioned the 'stickyness' and I would imagine it will easily become sticky quickly.

With that in mind, and given I got it for a steal, i dont want to send it back. If I didnt want to de-stick it myself, where could i get it redone in an oil finish easily? Would one of the cue makers on here be willing to do this? For a fee obviously.

If anyone could suggest something I would be grateful. Im off on holiday on friday for 2 weeks so would like to send it off for fixing this week if i could.

                            Cheers

Yeah could be a fake which is what i'm thinkin.....i bought it from a company called topcue.com in which although mail order only is based fairly local to me. It came in peradon plastic sleeves which i know means nothing and when they first got back to me they said they'd sold thousands and mine was the first complaint, after which they emailed peradon direct who told them what i've wrote in my previous post. Thing is if it is a fake then the company i'm dealing with must know as they wouldn't have bought it direct from peradon.....anyone know the company in question, they seem genuine and have responded to my emails swiftly but i do hate the thought of being ripped off even if it is only an £80 cue. Any ideas on how i could tell a definate fake guys?
