Totally right mate and a lot of the top pro's would agree with that ,although they are not allowed to say much about them ,but quite a few have dumped their own Stars for decent snooker tables .

Its the Petts Wood club near Orpington . The owners family or wife’s family is something to do with the original Riley family .

Ive heard of that club in Brighton . I’ll bring your cue next time I go on a day trip down there
Can she get me a discount

A little tip/bit of advice for you when you do get the table.... while it’s in pieces put a coat of clear varnish on all the timber framework that you don’t see afterwards, it’ll prevent the wood from going crazy with the temperature changes in the shed! I’ve also sewn together a few thick duvets that I will use to wrap the table up during winter, whenever it’s not in use.

i remember the first time i saw a Star table up close and realised the gold side slats were some type of plastic!! Really put me off them, I've also heard that they are nowhere near as sturdy as an Aristocrat or the Tournament champion silver leg table and over time dont stand up as well, cheaper materials used warp and run off etc etc. Need more maintenance, so more cost involved.

They make sense for TV tournaments that usually dont last long and you can understand the need for a financially viable product. But many people have made the association due to pro tourneys, that they are the best table in the world...

It’s testament to the tables that every different one I’ve played on in the club has been good. That was never the case back back in the day on the old BCE‘S etc.
Considering how many people are getting their own tables I want my own one now but it’s not going to fit in my shed/cabin .

I was talking to somebody down the club and he was putting one in his loft ......I’ve always wanted a loft extension, all I’ve got to do is try to explain it to the wife !

Trouble is they are made from a softish fast growing wood called Meranti / Lauan, and the legs are painted gold because they are made up of loads of bits of wood that are glued and compressed together ,then turned to shape .These Star tables don't take knocks scratches well and soon look scruffy .They serve a purpose for tv and are used because snooker is thriving in Asia and they can be knocked out cheap ,no British company can afford to supply tables anymore to events which is a shame .Rasson tables used in the champion of champion tournament look better and are a composite and metal table ,I've not seen or played on one but the feed back from the pro's is that they seem to like them .

i asked that question on a thread on here a few years ago , Odrl gave me a good answer but i forgot , just checked on youtube , the 2008 uk championship was a riley aristocrat tournament champion and the 2009 uk championship was a star table so star's were probably the preferred choice around the start of the 2009 / 10 season , also i think they switched from bce westbury's to riley tournament champions at the start of the 1993 / 94 season .

                        Thanks Trains,
I didn’t realize that Star tables were used that far back.

Mmmm ..... makes you wonder how the decision was made to make Star the suppler .

i think star gave world snooker 50k a year over ten years to be their supplier , which was more than riley offered , thats what i read on here anyway , whether the numbers might be off it was more profitable for world snooker to use star's .

Aristocrat legs are also made up of several pieces that are glued then turned, just from Mahogany though and with better craftsmanship. I did feel slightly guilty when I sprayed mine silver....

                              Have you seen this one??

Looks like an Aristocrat to me, bad varnish job though, would be a prime candidate for a Tournament Champ spray job!

Up your neck of the woods too?? Comes with plenty of accessories. I’d have thought maybe ?1500 and your laughing!

He mentions it was bought 4 years ago fully refurbished, yet on the photos I can see all the legs have had done is a bad stain and varnish, the pot marks from hitting the top of the legs with the rest haven’t been filled and sanded. Also to note the cushion rubber looks very thin going into the pocket openings which means they must be like buckets! If you like tight tournament pockets you’ll need to factor in a re-rubber.
