Cushions are ok and not too bad to do ,I’ve done it once ,as for the bed ,Danger Steve is the guy that has done it on his own table ,I think he took the old one off and put it back on a couple of times to get used to doing it ,middle pockets are the hardest part to get right .Probably better to get a fitter in for the job .What table is it ,and is it full size .

If you are sure you want to do this yourself then I would highly recommend buying the easy snooker DVD from EBay, watching someone step by step is much easier to follow than me trying to explain it in detail. Try this link:

For the 10.99 it’s worth every penny! And I wouldn’t think of attempting it before you’ve watched this a few times and full understand the process.
Next your going to want to practice on the old cloth 2 or 3 times at least until your comfortable with pulling at the cloth and tacking it. It’s actually quite tricky to keep the tension with one hand while hammering in a tack with the other!! You’ll also need to buy a magnetic tack hammer to make this easier! Getting the cloth nice and tight is just done by feel really, after you’ve had a few attempts you’ll get used to how tight you can pull it, which is basically as hard as physically possible! Be warned though! The middle pocket is where the skill is and where a good table fitter earns his money! Get this wrong and it’s game over, new cloth required! If you can try to position the old cloth so the existing cut in the cloth doesn’t go back in the same place, so as though it’s new cloth essentially.. Then you’ll definitely want to practice pulling, holding, cutting and then tacking the cloth all in one motion. There is a little trick where you fire some tacks into the cloth either side of the middle pocket to temporarily hold the cloth in place so you can relax a little if you need to adjust your grip, without fear of a serious rip occurring! That’s covered in the DVD!
I did try to save an excellent video I found on Facebook of a fitter from Camelot snooker as he showed how he and Riley fitters get the middles perfect every time, I think this was on Joe Perry’s practice table. I’ll see if I can find you a link and add this later!
I would actually argue that re-clothing the cushions involves more skill than the bed cloth! I actually did my cushions twice because I wasn’t happy after my first attempt. My table has wood cushions though. Steel I think is slightly easier IMO.

Steve I should have mentioned that you are dead right about Steels ,I got a rip in my old table cushion cloth years ago so me and Dave Coots recovered it ,took us ages to get it right but get it right we did .Steels are easier as the pocket rubber does not flow in to the back of the pocket plate ,so no dealing with thin rubber and trying to fit the cloth around it ,also its in two pieces so easier to work with .

Yeah that is the tricky part to get looking neat. My first attempt I ended with a small crease between the rubber and the cushion just behind that small flap of rubber! 2nd attempt was perfect! The middles again where the worse for trying to crease because of the sharper angle, but once you have the technique it’s a little easier. I think the difference between pro’s is just the speed at which they can re-cloth everything. I took my time to get it spot on, but it did take a while!
