  • Full size snooker table advice (Italy)

    Hello to everyone,

it's a long shot, as I'm thinking about getting a full size snooker table in 2023.
Anyway I'd like to have some advices from you.

I currently have an 8ft snooker table (in which I play 8 ball with 2-1/16 snooker balls) with steel blocks made by Alan Phillips and I'm very happy about it.
One possible choice would be going once again to Alan Phillips for a 12ft Statesman snooker table.

I've also taken a look at the 12ft Solid Walnut Sovereign Artisan Snooker Table made by Idonohoe even if I think their table is a little bit more expensive than the one from Alan Phillips.

Do you have any feedback for the two aferomentioned names or any other maker I'm not aware of?

    Also, table heaters or not?

I could also think of buying a refurbished second hand table, but my knowledge about them is pretty scarce.

Thank you in advance for all of your answers

I’ve had a look at that Statesman table ,have seen the web site before and the table looks good although I’ve never seen one personally .I see he ships and fits tables abroad ,are you in the Uk ? .How big is your room going to be ,is it part of the house or a separate build , these things will have a bearing on what heating you use .Keeping the room at a constant 20 degrees will probably be fine with out table heaters ,Hainsworth match cloth is fast anyway .Second hand reconditioned match tables can be had at a good price Riley Aristracrat and BCE Westbury were used in all tournaments for nearly 30 years and are good tables ,but if your not in the Uk then maybe new would be a good move ,how much is that Statseman table delivered and set up .

I had my Phillips table fitted by a Belgian fitter who works for Alan Phillips for Western EU countries. I do not know the price for his Statesman table yet.
Regarding the used tables, I'd say I agree with you.

As some of you know my table is an old British one. I have no input on the models you mention but I would make one general observation. Get a good table that you like. A snooker table is a long term investment so don't rush. Also even if one is a bit more than you want to spend, but is the table you like, go for that. Over the life of the table the extra spend is a very small consideration!

I would agree with Philip on that ,tables are very personal ,and it’s a big investment not just for the table but the room as well .British made tables are far better quality than say Chinese ones .

Responding to mikee, table would be placed in a 150/160 sqm open space (old machine shop), so temperature will be surely not 20

Hadn't heard of the Idonohue table makers before so had a Google and found Thier website, the table you mention does look very nice and is quite reasonable in price. I like the fact it's in Accrington and uses the skills of many ex Riley craftsman , designers and machinists to built and set up their tables.

What I don't like is that I can find any reviews on that model anywhere. I'm also a little sceptical because I've only seen a few modern oak tables in clubs and although they look great the old tables are favoured over them for all matches. The general feeling I get is they are made for wealthy people who want a nice new shiny snooker table but are not real snooker players....

I could be wrong on this particular model, but personally I couldn't buy it without someone trusted telling me they are great tables.
