Ironing Baize

How often should a snooker table be ironed. Does it tighten the cloth? I know it is to help keep the nap down. Is there an alternative to a dowsing iron. I have played snooker in Canada for most of my adult life, but I have never actually played on a table that has been ironed. Seems that ironing the baize was somehow forgotten in the part of the world that I come from.

Brush and block the table as required to remove chalk and finger marks, iron once or twice a week depending on how much use the table gets.
