  • Buying a table in Israel

I joined this forum back in 2006 but I don't seem to have been very active (I was active on the old snooker chatroom in the late 90s if anyone remembers that). Anyway as a snooker fan for the best part of half a century (no prizes for guessing who I support) I am finally on the cusp of a dream coming true, we are moving into a house with a (concrete floored) attic large enough to house a full size table, all that is left is the small matter of buying a table.
I've looked at the website of local Israeli retailers, and these are the options, I'd appreciate any advice:
    1. tables by Crown (sorry most links in Hebrew but I think it's this company, anyone know their tables?), prices about £4000)
    2. similar to 1., Regiis tables, I can't find details on manufacturers, priced at about £4150
    3. tables that don't have manufactures identified, such as these (the Elegance table looks fine, but no indication of manufacturer, priced at about £5000)
    4. STAR xing pai Bronze table, £7250
    5. this Chinese "Shender" table (with steel backed cushion option), about £8000)
    6. and I've found one site selling Riley tables, but they don't have a price for a full size, just a 9 foot at about £9700, so I'm guessing a full size is quite a bit more, but at least if it's a Riley table it should be quality (unfortunately they haven't answered my inquiries).
Another option could be to try to buy directly from a manufacturer and ship it over, but I'm not sure I'm up to the paperwork.

It's not that money isn't an option, but this is a once in a life time purchase and so I want to spend what's needed to get it right. Any Israelis on the forum who've done this already, or anyone know anything about any of the tables I've listed, or had experience importing tables for personal use? Also is it worth upgrading for the steel cushions, would I even feel the difference (I have hardly played in the past 15 years, and only sporadically previously, aside from a 6 ft table as a kid).

    Any help really appreciated!

    welcome back ()
oh what as quandary you are in

Personally I would find a refurbed old table, like a Riley Aristocrat, or a Karnham & Hillman, or such; much better quality than modern tables.

I hope our resident table fitters/suppliers will pop on here with there advice

of course please let us know how you get on
    Up the TSF! :snooker:
