  • A question concerning cushion height, pockets and ball size

    Hello,

My name is Gwen, and i am a french snooker fan.
I used to live in the UK between 2002 and 2006, and I discovered Snooker back then (Shaun Murphy's title)

I've been dreaming about having a table since then.

I recently purchased a rather OK french billiard table that I want to convert. It is about 8 feet long.

I plan to convert the cushions to snooker L-shape rubber. (they are rather pointy as of now)

But the question is : what size are these rubber things supposed to be ? I've found descriptions of 1/2, 3/4 and 7/8" L shape rubber…

I plan on using 2" balls (and maybe also smaller ones : I have a set of 1,5" balls already) and making the pockets the real size, based on templates I've found on the net.

Is there a common combination that is known to work well ? Like for instance :"8 feet table, 2" balls, 3/4" rubber at a certain height " ?

Because I have very few experience, I am a bit (a lot) confused right now…

Thanks for any help you could provide !

This thread I've found seems very informative :

So the size of the rubber is less important than the height, with the lower lip just above mid-ball height ?

I will have to cut the slates and the wooden rails to accomodate for the pockets, yes.

            I will try !
I am usually quite bad at documenting things: I get my head down and carry on, carry on, carry on until I realize I haven't documented anything.
            But I will try !

But apparently I am not allowed to post attachments…

How to add images to your TSF posts
You can use a free image-sharing site such as ImgBB, without registering (you can register for free), to upload your images, you may have to do the “not a robot” checks quickly. There are other image sharing sites as well.
              ImgBB.com
              Click on "Start Uploading".
Browse to the file and select it, click Open.
Auto delete image - leave as "Don't autodelete".
              Click "Upload".

Change "Embed Codes" to "BBCode full linked".

Hover mouse over the code in the box, a "COPY" will appear, click this.
Go to your TSF post and paste.
You can repeat for multiple images in a single post.

              Up the TSF! :snooker:

                OK, thanks.

So this is the table BEFORE moving to my house (this beautiful house is not mine…)

                And after transport

Miraculously, it is reasonnably horizontal (my house isn't, I swear)

                But back to the topic:

Here is a picture of the rail I plan after the changes:

I've pictured the 2 sets of balls (1.5" and 2"), and the L shaped rubber sitting on a 5/8 piece of wood (part of the rail in fact).
The red measurements are in mm (sorry)

                Does it feel alright ?
