  • Steel block cushions

I have an old table with standard cushions that I want restored. I thought I'd found the ideal company but apparently they no longer offer this service and I can't find any other suitable company. The (arguably better) alternative is some steel block cushions. Thing is my table has 5 bolt sides (with some non-standard 'to bolt centre'' measurements) and 6 bolt ends so Riley / BCE cushions won't simply bolt on and B+W cushions I don't think I'll be able to get up to tournament spec.

I'd rather not buy the Peradon steel block cushions as they also, as I understand, it won't bolt straight on.

So I'm hoping that someone will be able to recommend either someone to restore my extant cushions or even better someone who will make me some bespoke steel cushions to fit my table.

All advice / recommendations gratefully received.

Not sure where you are based, but Robert Read snooker does most of the top tables and lighting around Yorkshire, I presume he travels further afield. Might be worth an inquiry?

Thanks. I suspect he will offer re-blocking / re-rubber but unsure about restoration. Will reach out to him and ask.

What I'd really like to find is a company that will manufacture me a brand new set of bespoke steel block cushions.

            Have you tried

Chris Carroll (aka maryfield) rileyaristocrat@hotmail.co.uk based in Scotland but often says they have restored stuff - so either do it themselves or "know someone that can"

Thanks, yes i have spoken with Chris today. Nice chap and very positive conversation and am hopeful there might be a way forward. Not bespoke and made from scratch for my table but potential '2nd best' options.

There must be a company that will make bespoke though i'd have thought, but if there is i cant find them.

                    Hello Freddy,
Can you you share some more info as I am looking for some new/refurbished steels for my Aritsocrat?

                    Are you getting new ones?

                    Thanks

I was going to steel block my table but the mahogany is so dense it really doesn't need it.

What i understand i am getting is used steels, sand blasted and powder coated to like new, newly manufactured friezes in Mahogany and new Riley match plates, plate leathers, nets and game rails. I could have had new manufacture steels (as per ebay listing below) but lead time is extended so opted for re-furbished steels.

Essentially what Chris is offering in his ebay listing but with re-furbished steels (Ignore 1st photo which is of the Peradon steels)

In my case i've gone for SB's now as my cushion rails have started to split where the pocket plate pins are inserted into the rail so really need a proper restoration, but primarily so that i can have match plates and the pockets cut to tournament spec. I've found that on non-SB as the rubber extends further back into the pocket opening than SB's, they spit more balls out. Or at least mine seem to.
