Hi all,
We have a new club here in Ottawa, Canada (https://ottawasnookerclub.com) with 4, soon to be 5 Rasson Magnum II tables equipped with heated beds and perimeter lighting (really nice setup). The first 4 were installed a year ago with Strachan 6811 Club cloth, and has played ok, but not as fast as we'd like and with the 5th table coming there's discussion on getting the same Club cloth or going to Superfine on the new table as a test (and increasing the hourly rate a bit to compensate on that one table).
So doing my research as a club member (not a cloth expert), I see Stratchan has 30oz 'Tournament' cloth, and wondering if this would actually play better than the Club cloth. Geoff Large's previous posts in these forums state the 30oz is by far the most popular, and I can't find any posts at all in these forums that discuss the quality of the 6811 Club cloth (hence this post).
The owner originally picked 'Club' thinking because it is lighter it would be the next best thing to Superfine (he refers to it as 28oz cloth, but the math doesn't make sense when Strachan describes the weight as 460g/m2).
We also have an issue with 'peach fuzz' clinging to the cue ball, even though the tables are regularly brushed and ironed (super annoying).
So... questions abound, and would love to get some expert feedback
1. Why does Strachan include an 'oz' number in the product names of the 30/32oz Tournament cloths when the weights shown are 480g and 515g/m2 (which = ~16/18oz)?
2. Is the Club cloth (at 460g/m2) made from an lesser grade of wool (hence the peach fuzz)?
3. Is the 6811 Tournament 30oz a better choice for playability than the Club cloth?
4. What are the durability differences between 30oz and Club?
5. How much less durable is Superfine compared to the 30oz (measured in hours of typical play if that's a thing)?
Thanks in advance all!
Cheers,
David
