problam is a snooker table is a daunting thing for the casual pub player and landlords has got to maximise potential ......
there would be more people with the lose ability to sing going in to the pub for the entertainment of others than would atempt to pot balls on a 12x6 snooker table.
A pub I used to go to in Chiswick (W. London) used to have a "snooker" table (well, kind of - the pockets were like pool table pockets, although it was almost fullsize IIRC - about 10ft x 5ft or something.) You had to put money in a coin slot to get the balls out at the start and it was ok I suppose, in as much as it certainly made a change from pool. The table didn't last long though - it was soon taken out and replaced by a couple of pool tables ...
The best table game for pubs imo was bar billiards, but sadly they became practically extinct when the pool tables took over.
I live in small Northumbrian village - Stonehaugh - and we have a lovely bar billiards table, newly recovered, in our social club. Open Thurs; Fri; Sat; Sun; 7.30 'till late. All welcome!!!
It uses one shilling pieces, available from the bar at 50p each.
