check slate by rolling balls across it , if they roll towards the middle from each end then it is dipped and will require packing up on bearer inside the table slightly , but if it is bad walk away . yes look at slate underneath for damage .

Iv'e made my choice of preferance in the supreme , but at the end of the day its you that matters and its youre gutt instinct that will make youre choice not mine , I base my choice on over 30 years fitting experience and problems on tables that I have come across , I'm afraid I cannot make the choice for you just my preferance .

I don't think supremes are the best tables at all (unbiased opinion having owned one an playing pool at a pub and local club with several). Winners are everywhere because they're cheap, but they're cheap because the materials used are cheap. People like them because of the familiarity (and generous cut on the pockets). The best pool table I've played on was made by SAM. I'd advise finding a retailer and to go see and choose for youself tho.

My thoughts exactly, and the 'familiarity' is important to serious players because of their use in most clubs and therefore competitions, and of course the IPA tour. They're the 'official table of the world champs blah blah.
But like you said, SAM tables are the best, not sure about all models but I've played on a few which were great. Another thing I don't like about the winner style table are the sloping edges like a 9 ball table. Would much rather bridge on a flat edge, like a supreme prince etc. But they're not much cop either, lean on one and all the balls move lol

Nah I wouldn't worry about that.

If I were you, seeing that it's not gonna be in the best of surroundings, buy one that's a bit worn on ebay and refurb it yourself, Get one of those DVDs from easysnooker (I think) which is a step-by-step guide on how to re-cloth and do it yourself, not very difficult and a useful skill.
You might get one of those Hazelgrove tables already mentioned for about 100 quid, good cloth and spray glue etc about 70 quid and a tenner for the dvd, sorted.
If you do this when you search on ebay, click on 'distance nearest first' obviously

the hazel groves are going for quite a bit as well

this superleague is 200 with lights accessories and probably needs a recloth but that can be done in future is still playable.

ive found a courier service as well where people bid to do your job theyre asking 50 quid instead of the 100-150 ive been quoted.

Bear in mind you can hire a van for 50 quid and just get a couple of helpers who'll do it for a stop at McDonalds

very good idea. what type of van do you need?

my uncle has a small van the smallest ones possible, would it fit in that?

thats a good idea actually. people have recommended medium sized vans like sprinters thats why i wasnt sure.

how heavy does the slate top weight. is it best to dismantle and take it peice by peice?

We pay on a Superleague at my club and it great when cloth and cushs are done.
You don't get the same bounce out you get with Supreme tables.
Otherwise Supreme are generally the best thought of among players I know.

Oh and I wouldn't recloth a table myself surly not worth the hassle.
