  • Snooker Table

Hello everyone, my grandad who I live with was thinking about buying a full size snooker table when we move house shortly. So I need to know the answers to these questions:

    1. How much does it cost to buy a snooker table.
    2. What size room would I need to put a snooker table in.

If there is anything else you think I need to know about buying a snooker table. It would be truly appreciated if you said it.

If you want to talk more about snooker add my MSN: Daniel_Westhead@hotmail.co.uk

Many thanks to all The Snooker Forum users from Daniel Westhead.

I don't own a Snooker Table(I wish!) but if i did i would be making sure i followed these recommendations.

My table would be tournament spec such as Riley Aristocrat,Wiraka M1 or Star table with mouse's ears for pockets!!!(my preference).

That it was in a room, not a garage.

Kept warm to a consistant temperature.

    Had carpet tiles!!!

A powerpoint under the table for the additional option of under table heating!

The room would be at least 24ft x 18ft.

Oh and that you used Aramith Tournament Champion Balls! GET TO IT you lucky lucky person!!!:snooker: :snooker: :snooker:
    Cheap and Cheerful! 😄

Number one , I take it that Grandad is a pensioner and has to watch the pennies so you have two choices , buy a table off ebay unseen , at low cost say £200 only , you may be lucky and the cloth is ok for now , Get a specialist Firm or fitter in to move the table for you and set up .
That can cost from just £375 + vat for a dismantle and set up if table is pretty close to you , add around £365 + vat for a recover and £85 +vat for nets and leathers if required .
The table that I would recomend is the Karnehm and Hillman tables ( not made anymore ) , they are modern tables with a good build quality and look good too if they have the tulip leg such as the Buckingham . but you do not play on the legs and a square leg plays the same and a good chance of picking a square leg one up at low cost .
2nd choice is to buy a table from a reputable firm for around £1500 to £2000 + vat all in fully recovered and ready for play .
take youre time to buy one its a buyers market as plenty of full size tables for sale .
another make of table , made in liverpool area was the ENBILD make , these where hand floated slates on every table that left the factory , enbild ceased trading now , but now and again you do see there tables for sale , the Duke model was a good looking table .

Number two , Size of room should be no smaller than 16 foot by 22 foot , but you can use a smaller cue's for any obsticles that protrude out such as supporting walls etc .
at 22foot by 16 foot there is just enough room for a seat in each corner , if you require more seating area add this to width or lenth of room .

Number three ( is there anything you need to know about buying a table ) points to look out for , Make sure the table has true slates as many tables have dished or bowed slates . also if the table has cracked or broken slates , or is just a very poor quality table , also make sure that the Billiards fitter who is fitting it has the experience to set it up correctly , testimonials are a good source for this from previus customers or from this forum .
Also make sure the table has good rubber as this can add another £300 to £350 plus vat on the cost of refurbishing .
If putting the table in an outdoor building then make sure it is Dry , nothing worse than a damp table . they warp and go out of level , plus the damp cloth will get mildew . Even with a cover over it , as it absorbes damp through the slate from under the table .
A oil filled radiator under the table will keep a table dry and also better to play on warm slates than cold .
