  • How thick is the concrete in your floor? Is there any steel in it?

    • No steel in the mix.
About 6/8 inches of concrete poured over the insulation and membrane which is on top of a few ton of hardcore.

I know it's extra money, but have you thought about under floor heating. My snooker house has it underneath it's tiles, around the table I have protective flooring for flying balls. Just thought I would mention it. And then you have air con also. Put mine on yesterday evening as it was sticky. Just thought I would go the whole hog as I just knew I would use the house a lot.

Here is my protective flooring http://www.softfloor.co.uk/protective.shtml.

        • Yeah, I thought about it but decided against it. It's not the cost factor, the rest of the house has the rads and I want each room to look uniform.
I already have my air-con unit at home ready to be installed into the room.

My air con unit is flush in the ceiling above the table which is naughty because of leaks, beware..

            All the very best..

            • yes those air con units above a table are bad news , our local Conservative club in Beeston has two tables with two units above them and they have leaked all over the posh shades they had covered in Brown velour and also the tables , so be warned anyone who is yet to have a air con unit fitted keep it away from the table to one sde or end if possible and maybe wall mounted not roof mounted .

              • Sorry to bring up an old thread again but was planning permission required for this?
And what sort of costs did it run to?
Tried messaging Mick142 but see he hasn't been online in a while.

                • Planning permission is dependant on the type of property you have and the land around it. Also angle lines from your neighbours windows play a big part.

Without permission you can build a single storey extension upto 4 meters if your house is detached. This is permitted development.

For a shed type building with a timber frame you can build where and what you want in terms of your boundaries providing it isn't more than 4 meters in height and doesn't take up more than 50% of the land around the original house.

On a side note, my table is installed tomorrow... Very excited

                  • Just read the posts on this page. I can get AC installed cheaper than I had thought so that will be a must.

Is a full load of concrete about 6 cubic metres? My room is more or less 60 square metres so a load of 6 cubes would give me 4". So if I could get a slightly bigger load I think I would be happier as 4" would be marginal I should think. Obviously for cost reasons I would like to work around 1 whole load.

                    • About 6 meters is the norm. Are you having the floor completely concrete or having a screed type plaster on top?

                      • Apparently the trucks here carry 7 metres so it will be a bit more than 100mm thickness. I think it will be solid concrete. He has a laser level so it should be fairly accurate. He is going to reinforge it as well. There is loads of brick rubble kicking around so that will all get pukverised into the base of the concrete so I hope it will be adequate.

How much would this cost but if it was smaller and had a pool table in it

                          • Really a pool table will fit in any decent sized room. You just need a really huge room for a 12' table.

                              • I know full well the word " ouch "... A lot of people go with log cabins now because they are so well insulated and the building itself is cheaper way to go than using blocks and cement..
