  • Yes, that would be cheaper but it wouldn't provide the ambience that I am seeking.

    • Mick that really is an excellent job of building your snooker room. I, like others on here am very envious. I would like to do something similar but I am very tight for space (width wise) at the bottom of my garden. I have a 'tapering' garden so at the very bottom of the garden it is about 15 feet wide but get's wider (about 18 feet) towards the middle of the garden. This would also mean that I would have to have a 'tapering' building as the baulk end would go at the bottom so using short cues off the cushion but towards the middle pockets and up to the black spot (where it matters) would be wide enough to use normal length cues off the cushion. Now, I have read that you have to have at least 1 metre between the side of the building and the boundary of gardens of houses either side (in my case). But I also have read that you can go closer (I would have to go right up to the boundary) if you have fire retardant bricks or wood. Does anyone on here know if I would be able to do that? Bearing in mind that the overall size would be approx 40 square metres (but still takes up less than 50 percent of size of garden). I still haven't decided whether I would go for a brick building or a wooden structure like a log cabin. Also, I think has to be under 2.5 metres high which Mick's Potting shed looks like it is?

          • I know my excuses for not getting any further are starting to sound like schoolboys' excuses for not having done homework. I am now told that the concrete goes in next week.

              • I have posted some photos of the early stages of my barn conversion at:

I have no doubt that building a new place would have been less trouble than doing the barn conversion. It would probably have been cheaper as well but I fancied going with what was already there. Anyway I will try to update the thread as things progress.

                • Progress

It progresses. The work you can see here is the extension to the existing barn (which was featured in my earlier posting). Anyway it is taking shape at last. These are from a few weeks ago so I hope it is further forward by now. I am assured that it will all be finished by spring.

Anybody on the site who knows anything about Home Cinema please PM me. My next plan is to put that in the basement.

                    • Great thread !
Toying with the idea of doing this myself. Would have to get rid of my pinball machines though if I did. Although selling them would pay for a potting shed.

                      Tempting.

                        Go for it.

I have had nice cars, motorbikes and many other things. However, nothing beats having your own playing space, I love it and would now be lost without it...

I'm tempted. Will have to get the tape measure out and have a looksee. I might keep a couple of the pinballs and make the room big enough to fit them in too.

                          • You need 4.8 x 6.6 metres (22' x 16') clear space for a full size table. I shall have 7.5 x 8 metres but there is a small "snug" area within that. You can see the short part wall which will form that. Anyway I have plenty of space.

                            • I have space for something about 26' x 20'. Need to convince myself now that I would play more snooker at home than pinball.
