who is the manufacturer?

hi there

just about to purchase this table at a really good price and can't find any manufacturer plates on it, i have yet to dismantle the table and i may get some idea when i do but wondered if anyone on here recognises it and who might have made it please.

any help would be appreciated, i am buying it from someone who lives close by, around the corner from us and its too good an opportunity to miss as its a really good table but would like to know the maker.

99% sure table it is a Barton snooker humberside area . if it has a matching scoreboard it would say barton snooker on this

did you have any luck ?
looking at the table , the cushions are very like Barton snooker withe those Fluted slide in panels , the leg however is not a normal barton design . as barton tables also included the fluting in the leg , unless an experiment in design or a model I have not seen .

could be that it has had new cushions in the past ? Barton was one firm that hardley put any labels or name plates on the Table , prefering to put it on the scoreboard .

the only other firm I know doing those fluted panels on cushions was Birmingham billiards , but think these where imported tables from china .
it could be an older birmingham billiards table with newer cushions .

As it happens i was surfin the web and noticed that birmingham billiards were very similar and have just yesterday emailed them so will let you know what they say.

i will be stripping the table first week of August so will let you know how things progress.

either way if its Barton or Birmingham billiards are they Ok tables then

All I can say is there are worse tables out there , but I always recomend Karnhem and hillman tables as a good second hand MODERN BUILT table to judge others from .

Barton are 50/50 with their build quality . you have got to remember that when these tables where produced in the 1980s boom they where built on a budget to target snooker clubs , Retailing at around £1800 to £2200 . when a quality standard table say from thurston /clares was £3500 to £4500 .

Birmingham billiards used to advertise that their tables where made in the UK , but I have picked tables up from their unit in birmingham and can honestley say that the Brand New tables I assembled from them where chinese Made maybe finnished off in the UK , the pocket plates haveing one large oval type lug which I could see having problems in the future coming loose .

but thats just one fitters opinion , others could rate them lower or higher . I can only judge by what I see in the flesh not from Pictures.

The only other manufacturer that has avery simular leg design is allied billiards , also a birmingham area Firm , it just maybe allied frame and slate with newer Birmingham billiards Cushions fitted at a later date .

although a bit cumbersome, I like the idea of the pipe insulation on the rest holders. They always seem noisy in a quiet club, so guess this would work well. Looks naff but good end result.

I could private nessage you but feel that My reply may make sense to other people so here it is .

1 , you should have asked admin to advertise on this forum as it is a sales pitch , i have in the past mentioned what tables of intrest within a topic about what tables we have for sale but they have allready been sold and posted pictures or are about to be sold with pictures and price , so it is not a sales pitch . I only posted and mentioned them because they have historical history of an historical firm mentioned in that thread . and felt poeple would like to veiw a table of that manufacturer in all its glory such as a Geroge wright or Orme and the gillows table .

2 youre up against it selling NEW tables when people can buy Good quality BRITISH made second hand tables on ebay for as low as £200 average price . and there are plenty of them thousands in fact each year advertised .
I just do not get how we as a quality manufacturering nation can lose our table manufacturing buisness to say China , by the time import duty has been paid and middle mens comissions , the tables are no lower in price than a good quality Uk made table , I bet Thurston could produce a good quality steel block cuhioned table for £8000 fitted inc vat . this is the price star table retails in the UK .


3 , you may of guessed I am a little narked that we have to resort to selling chinese tables as the main New stock of tables for sale within the UK , I feel we are letting the world take our jobs away in the manufacture not only within the Billiards and Pool industry but also the Manufacture of Cars ,and electrical equipment .
My honest experience of fitting chinese tables is not very good , the slates are very soft , the wood is of poor quality when compered to UK made tables say Karnehm and Hillmans for example , some of the pocket plate fixings are suspect to come loose in time very quick .
I am ashamed to say 36 years ago my uncle sent two containers of Billiard tables out to china for the chinese to copy .
sooner or later the Governing body here in the Uk will get together and say all Uk tournements have to have a UK made table , why settle for a Copy of one.

Doublestarchase , I hope you do well as a person in youre selling role , but I for one will not push chinese tables when we have good craftsmen out of work here in the Uk who can make a better product .

tip: if you want to be able to sell to a community as small and dedicated as snooker fans first get to know them! then seek the permission of whoever runs the forum before trying to use it solely to promote your own business. ie the rule is this: snooker fan first, business later.

Can you elaborate for me more, we are even expanding and buying new tables once every while, we own tables from UK as well as China, and I honestly tell you that I do not have the knowledge to observe how's one better than the other. Can you tell me what to look for to judge the quality of my tables? Hopefully, by knowing these, we can justify ourselves that the next batches of tables we looking for we will seriously considered those from UK. Many thanks.
