  • Table recovering service

    Hi

Just wondering if any of you guys could recommend a company to recover/recushion my table in the West London/Middlesex area.

I picked up a 10ft Riley Aristocrat from ebay last year and although the table and cloth were immaculate, I've never been that happy with the way it plays. I seem to get little reaction from the cloth and the cushions don't exactly have a consistent bounce either.

The table I bought was previously kept for about 10 years in a "warm" loft so I have a feeling the cushions may have dried out. And the cloth although still quite thick when I brush, block and iron it, it turns in to a bit of an ice rink to play on (no the iron isn't too hot).

    Thanks in advance.

Geoff Large, on this forum, is a table fitter/restorer and I think he does work in the area you state (as he travels around). I am sure if he cannot help, he will know someone who can.
I see you only have 7 posts, once you have 10 you can PM Geoff.
    All the best

      Thanks Dean

I'm gonna try one thing 1st which is to fit table heaters. Table is in garage and although I can heat room up quickly the table does take a bit longer.

I've been recommended using four of these.

I use Alliance Snooker from Liverpool.Google the name to find them.
They collected my table from Kent and installed it in Glasgow after storing it for a while.
Reliable, friendly, good and not rip off prices.

            Thanks for your replies.

I've installed the heaters and it has made a big difference.

I normally play about 8pm so i've them set to go on/off every 15 minutes from about 5pm and this seems to get the slate to a good temperature. Will reduce this when weather warms up a bit.

Both ball and cushion reactions are a lot better and managed to clear a line up on my 1st attempt!

Now can anyone help with a bad back?!

            Cheers

You really need to keep the table in the right environment if you want it to play well and last. If you allow the table to get below say 60F then you are asking for trouble and rather a poor table to play on. Keep the table above that temperature and you will find it plays much better.

I would check your stance at the table, you could be putting unnecessary pressure on your back muscles, a good coach can help with your stance, there are several based in London.
As well as the Coaching section on this forum, where you shold find great advice on stance, see the following:

Now if you have a bad back it may also be good to find an osteopath in your area, personal recommendations from family/friends/colleagues would be good but any that are registered with the General Osteopathic Council and/or British Osteopathic Association should be good.

After a car accident years ago I had a very bad neck and back, the doctor sent me to a physio - and to be honest my five-year old could have done better!
Then I happened to be chatting at work - one of those water-cooler moments - and a colleague mentioned osteopathy.
I found one listed in the Yellow Pages (pre-tinternet days) and have not "looked back" since (pardon the pun )
Luckily my osteopath plays pool in a pub-league like me (different leagues though) and he has also helped with my stance to avoid any further problems.
                All the best to you.
