Last week we where in the west country and a client wanted us to remove a 8ft FH Ayers table from a 2nd floor in a large victorian house .
the table was a three section very thin 3/8th slate thank god two flights of stairs to carry them down , the three sections screwed down onto a thick wood subframe .
now this is the first F H ayres table I have worked on , I have seen their advert poster ( Reproduction ) many times on ebay , and even today someone is still selling these posters .
from the look of this 8ft table i would say it was circa 1870s at the latest , due to the very thin slates , the cushions are fitted onto the subframe with large Wood screws unlike the bolted thick slate type .
as a collectors piece , I like it very much , although it is only 4 legs , but due to the thin slate , there is no middle slate sag , the legs have large wood screw down levelers .
A nice matching scoreboard and an Original rotating cue rack complete this table .
Renovated I think the table as a three peice collectable as table cue stand and scoreboard , or period house piece , is going to be around £3500 .
We are awaiting instructions from the client , to see if he wants the table renovated then sold or sold as is . he is not wanting it back so it is to be sold .
it was rerubbered around 20 years ago , but requires a new bed cloth and cushions .
I know the cue rack alone is worth £1000 , the scoreboard with ebonised markeings and name transfer is worth around £300 , the table as it is £1000 . so for £1200 extra to fully renovate it , that is a good deal .
I do not have photo's at this time , I have set the frame backup in the wharehouse and put the thin slates back in the subframe , so will take aphoto on monday to post for all to see .
until then here is a link of those posters you can still buy on ebay , and no it's not me selling them .

Note on the poster photo , I think the scoreboard on the far wall in that early victorian setting , is very close to the shape of the scoreboard with this table .
F.H. AYERS WAS NOT ONLY KNOWN FOR THEIR BILLIARDS TABLES , BUT MORE SO FOR THEIR ROCKING HORSES AND OTHER SPORTS ITEMS ,SOME OF THE ROCKING HORSES ARE WORTH UPWARDS OF £4000 IN TODAYS MARKET , Have a look on ebay and you often see them for sale along with other Ayers products and advertisements .
