Which Table Brush

Hi, can anyone tell me what is the best type of table brush to use?

I've seen horse hair and mohair... are there any others... or which one is best between the two I've mentioned.

I just use an ordinary clothes brush. It works absolutely fine. I then get under the cushions with a paint brush every couple of weeks.

Thats the one I am currently using..Does the job very well and hardly looses any bristles..

Which Table Brush

Thanks for the info guys, though it's more the type of brush hair that I'm interested in. Is horse hair or mohair better, or are there other alternatives which are better?

as with everything these days they don't make em like they used to , those peredon Brushes are nothing like the quality they used to be , to answer youre question horsehair with split ends that will stay split as it wears in is the best to use , when new you can see the wood betwen the bristles and as they wear in the you cannot see the wood because the split hairs start to split further and spread makeing the Brush better to use , Iv'e just had a look on ebay and cannot see any of real quality although I did have a laugh at one seller hoping to get someone to part with £115.04p and they have sold 6 so they say ?

you should pay around £27 for a good pure Bristle brush , the peredon ones are ok but they are not like the quality of Brushes that they used to sell there is not as many Bristles on them .

Thanks for the info... by any chance do you keep these in stock yourself? Was thinking I might get Ted to put one in with the cushions before he ships them... of course after I'd paid him for it lol

you cannot get the old one's , but they do surface on ebay now and again , I do not know if Ted has any in stock but they are sold on ebay , I wrapped the cushions up today for shipping as I was passing the wharehouse 6 parcels , 3 with the steel in two in each parcel , and two with 3 wood cappings in , then the box with the pocket plates and I have put some new bolts in , these will require cutting down to size to bolt the cappings to the back of the steels .

Try these not bad for the cash by the look of them

They look like a broom end with Riley logo printed on it. Hard to judge by pictures but those bristles look very harsh!

Actualy Iv'e seen a few of these on my rounds and the Bristles are soft , I don't think there is a Brush out there that I could recomend as Top quality , the older peradon type are not available anymore , I have stock piled three at home so that they will last me to the end of my fitting days .
So i'm afarid you have to go with whats available on the Market , these are in my opinion just as good as the new peradon type which has a mixture of bristles , I do not think they are all horse hair , when I have looked some look like Broom bristles and others horse hair mixture , they have less bristles and are spaced out more and they do bend over like an old tooth brush unlike those better quality old type which I Have and i would imagine where UK made , unlike the ones on the market now , where the country of origin will prob be china ,and may even be Hog hair , nothing wrong with hog hair it is used in the paint Brush industry for high quality paint brushed with split ends but are a bit soft for table brushing .

just for a comparison check here is a photo of 2 Peradon Table Brushes , the top one is the later inferior type and they have altered them again since this and are even lower quality , the bottom one is the one to try and find on ebay , you can see that the mass of Bristles is far greater in the lower Brush and this brush is worn in and the bristle's have split so no gaps can be seen to the wood body through the bristle , a sign of a quality brush and you even notice the differance when useing it , it gets more dust out and because of those split ends is more smoother to brush down the nap .

I've went ahead and ordered that Riley Brush... will let you know what it's like after it arrives... just hope it's better than the one I've been using in the Club. The whole reason I created this thread, was after brushing down Joe Swails table using his own brush, before having him a few frames... his brush almost looked like it had seen better days and was ready for the skip... but it made such a difference to the table and was so much easier to use. Really lifted any chalk marks out too. Think if this brush is similar, I don't think I'll be needing my napping block as much lol

Thanks for this too... also managed what I think is a cracking deal... a friend of mine who is a fitter has brand new cappings... so I've came to an agreement, that I will swap him a table from my club (which I bought for £200) for the new cappings, match pocket plates, nets, leathers and tournament rails though don't know when I'll be getting them lol Now I just have to start saving towards having the rubbers done, and new No.10 cloth and my table will hopefully be up to a match standard
