Snooker table lights BUILT IN ?????????

If I go for the Dextas how high above the table should they be ideally , (how high is a table) the room is about 8ft 240cm high , i agree that ceiling mounting may be best but I dont want to much light missing the table. I though id be able to get hold of a coffin light to try very cheapley but cant find one

I will measure mine tomoz so you no what will work. I know with the LS1200 they can be ceiling mounted or left hanging on the cord which allows you for adjustment of height if needed. I will confirm tomorrow but I would guess my strip lights are 4ft above the baize. As I stated when using the strip lights the colour choice on the walls is quite important, go for some dark neutral colour or even a shade of green, anything really that will not amplifie and reflect the light which will make the room that much brighter. They are so much different to play under than the coffin shades..

Geoff has said (earlier on this thread and on other threads) that 5 feet above the table bed with the Dextras is ideal for coverage of the table and not too much of the room. His idea of a pulley system sounds great for those other occasions when you do want the room lit up more, and also will be good for maintenance and cleaning

World Snooker rule 1(b) states "The height of the table from the floor to the top of the cushion rail shall be from 2ft 9½in to 2ft 10½in (851mm to 876mm)."

You say you are awaiting carpets, then the table, are you standing the table directly on the carpet or on its own non-carpeted island in the middle of the carpet?

I have the dextras. Get them, they work a dream.

Where are you based? If you're in the midlands you could pop and look at mine before you purchase.

But at just over £100 I really wouldn't worry too much.

Mine are 4ft 10 over the table and every other table light I have played on in the league since seems shi*.

I stick my table on squares of lino, cut the lino around the legs and I plan to carpet to the table. Geoff has told me a newly installed table will take time to settle anyway, so I'm not panicking if the level goes til then.

Baize to start of underside light measures 44inch. I can go higher but this is fine..

Dark dingy snooker halls are a thing of the past , today the modern game demands better lighting , the pro's table on TV is lit up like a football field , they do not demand that the light just falls on the table , I have worked under many lighting conditions , over the years I felt like a pit poney , my eye's realy suffered and I had lazor eye surgery done about 5 years ago to rectify my eye sight .

but some people do go over the top with lighting , one customer I go to , has 4 BCE type 4 tube strip lighting across his table thats 16 tubes ? , I have to wear sunglasses to work on his table , at around £110 the dextra units offer good value for money , although they can be a bit awkward when you have to change tube's , there are better units on the market with better clip out chrome deflectors . but of course you pay a little more .

I do respect peoples vews on how they play the game , and if you are used to those dim lighted snooker clubs with dark paint then you may feel that that is the way to go , but more and more clubs are painting more bright colours and useing the new strip lighting placed higher up , the pro's play like this , the lighting at sheffield is very much brighter than two dextra units .
I feel that it is better for peoples eye sight to have good lighting , I know it is better for the fitter when he is Re-covering with new cloth .

I think Geoff is refering to replaceing the cloth on a table - re-covering.
Not recovering from an illness, or I hope so anyway

Yes I meant Re- cover as new cloth ....lol , I have corrected it now .

but talking about recovering from the lazor eye treatment , it took me around 6 months for my focusing to stabalize after the surgery , I think the older you are the longer it takes for the brain to customise itself to the new vision , young people recover quicker . my eye sight is now 20/20 vision , but if in a dark room I require reading glasses , the better the light the better my vision.

My wife had surgery on her eyes. Before she was typical Chinese- specs stayed at the bedside and went on in a morning and stayed on. Now she is 20/20. I regret to say my sight was too far gone to be corrected.

Sorry for the delay in updates, Ive got a bit carried away with my snooker since Ive been up and running which was the first week in august.
I went for the traditional canopy light in the end as you can see , it gives me the cosy feel to the room I was after. I went for a burroughes and Watts steel block table in the end in Oak with Strachen 6811 cloth.

Im very please with the table , its playing lovely and ive managed to get back to the level I was playing at 7 years ago when I stopped playing. (im not vey good highest brake 18 (5 balls) ) but my breaks are getting closer together.
