Table with wheels

Somebody must have thought of a table with wheels. I am not talking about little casters- but some decent big wheels like they have on a grand piano. You would be able to move the table aside if you needed the space and move it back later. There would need to be adjustment to relevel it every time of course.

As I said I can't be the first to think of this so why has it not been done- or has it?

Probably because levelling a snooker table is quite complex. Even if a built in levelling device was available within the table, it would have to be fairly robust because tables weigh an awful lot, and the mech would add more weight. The other problem with moving the table is the slate, it is thick and heavy but it's also a fragile material. Slates have been known to crack. A table with wheels, levelling device, that was robust enough to not break or wear out with a lot of movement would be quite expensive I imagine.

If only it was possible, a great idea in theory.

Snooker tables are too heavy to be portable, that's without even thinking about the leveling issues and movement of slates joints when moving the table. There is good reason why it hasn't been done.

I've never seen a table with permanent wheels but when my snooker room was built it was necessary to move the table in order to lay the carpet. I got a set of 8 wheeled platforms which are sold to store snowmobiles on so they can be moved around easily and rolled up onto their little trailers for transportation.

We just jacked the table up and set the 8 wheels under the legs and it worked like a treat. For the Canadian champs they also moved some tables around and used the same type of wheeled dolly. The weight bearing was 1.5 tons each.

Of course when on the wheels the table was about 2" high and it required re-leveling when it was set in its final resting place, but this method was much better than taking the table down and then setting it back up again. (I can hear the table fitters moaning now)

The table could be made out of a steel/aluminium/alloy frame and bed, with arches underneath to make sure it was flat and supported. It would cost a fortune to do this however.
