Any idea of age of a table.

Would you think it a good idea to strip and refinish the table? or should it be left as it is,I am keeping the table myself not selling it I am keen to get it perfect ,what does everyone think? long winter project I think?

Any ideas about getting a original name plate?



I am a joiner to trade,but not a expert on varnish finishing,have done a wee bit before and know there is a lot of work in it,again thanks for your efforts in trying to date the table.

I have poste 3 new pictures of the slates on the p/bucket link back on original post,yes they are 50mm, they maybe stained, sure you will know when you see the pictures,it it common to engrave slates? take it they just would mark them with a ink pen these days.

yes they are old welsh slates , they do not mark the slates with anything these days , italian slates used to have biggio or ardessia ? in red ink on the side , you will also notice that they have the joint drill out marks so ./. is first joint ../.. second and so on .../... + ..../.... youre slates are not in order of 12345 or 54321 as they should also be kept in order and upright like a door face outwards . never store them outside especialy if they get wet then they freeze or you will be looking at scrap slates .

I have seen slates standing on end that had water standing in the exposed bolt holes , when they froze they split open as the ice expanded, also the inner bolt nuts will rust . if they are outdoors get them inside in a dry place , or get them covered in plenty of plastic and insulated if you have to store outside .

Yes that may have happened to my other tables slates as they where left in the same place- under a roof but with one open side.

As you said I will get them well covered up and water tight, then shift them upright in order,to a better place,not looking foward to that but need must.

Not worth starting a new thread. Where would the serial number be on my B & W table? I need it for insurance purposes.
