  • Under table heating

    Hello all...

we are looking at getting some under table heating - the way ive decided to go is with 3 tubular heaters... so just some questions regarding this that im struggling to find answers for...

    1. What length is best per heater ones im looking at are 4ft???
    2. What wattage should i bee looking to get???
    3. how should the be mounted to get a best all round coverage of the table (ive seen some diagonally and some mount across the table...
    4. how far below the slate should they be mounted ideally?

if theres any other info i would greatly appreciate that i might have missed off...

    thanks

I've just got 3 small oil filled rads underneath my table. Spaced evenly.

While I admit they do make a difference. A lot of the time, I don't really bother with them and the table still plays fine.

Regular maintainance through brushing, blocking and ironing is much more important to a table's performance than the heat of the slate. Keep your balls clean too

Pottr is on the money with this one. There is already a thread on this with contributions by Geoff Large.

In the room I am building I have put a power point under the table with a conduit through the concrete floor so I won't have flexes trailing from a wall socket.

The heaters will need to be left on constantly to get any benefit , and the heat will certainly make the table run off as the table adjusts to the new temperature , so once you have had the table fitter out to re level the table after z couple of weeks with the heaters on, you need to make sure they are left on or the table wil never play level !!!! As you can see I have had same problem , and if I am honest it makes more sense not too bother !!!

I got tubular heaters 3 at 4ft long from local electrical supplier with cable to connect the 3up and plastic clamps to screw them to underside of table going across. It only cost me £65 for the lot and about half hour to wire up and screw to underside of table as close to slate as poss with out cutting any of the timbers under table.money well spent and don't use much power, normally switch on Friday noon when finish work and leave on till Sunday night if I was not working over weekend, the table plays amazing, my table is steel block no10 bed and 6811 on cushions, also never had any problems with table running out of level. Table plays so much faster with heaters great.

Glad it works for you. I would have thought that that would have been altogether too much heat but clearly I would have been wrong. Where are you?

I'm in north east England, the heat is perfect the Riley aristocrat had 3 tubalur heaters the same so I just went with that spec and it works great I also put a power socket in my concrete floor when building snooker room to avoid trailing cables

My Star has 2 tubular rods per slate. I leave them on permanently. They do not produce lots of heat, so there is no risk of a cracking table.

A bit of planning can save a lot of trouble can't it?

Hi trott my dad has the STAR heating system 6 very thin ceramic heaters, and to be honest he prefers my tubular heaters thinks it gives better heat, only reason he won't change star for tubular is the fact I bought the star heaters for him as a Xmas gift which were a lot more expensive than tubular heaters.
I recently spoke to pro Mark Williams and he told me the best heaters was the new mat system far better spread of heat.

                              Hi Philip
It is similar to underfloor heating loads of heating elements in a mat system which cover entire under slate as used in pro tournaments, when u watch the world championship next week you will notice little red lights under cushion rail at black end of table that is temp setting
