  • Looking at Antique Burroughs and Watts

Went to look a antique Burroughs and Watts today which has been dismantled. I was checking out the felt and it is Strachan felt but can anyone tell me which one it is? I am guessing it is the cheap one. I have attached a photo of the logo also the table has square legs which i have not seen before. Any help would be great. I have also attached the plate at end of table.

Look at my thread on snooker based holidays in "The Snooker Lounge" for pictures of a square legged B & W. (If it has square legs I doubt it being antique BTW but may well be corrected by Geoff or somebody).

If it is dismantled the last thing about which to worry is the cloth. When it is reassembled is the obvious time to get a new cloth anyway. I would be more concerned about ensuring that all the parts are there!

Square legs are actually very good. Turned legs look good but are notorious dust traps (not that I do my own dusting). Also a square leg is one piece of solid wood whereas turned legs tend to be a few pieces stuck together and then turned- with obvious potential for the blocks separating.

Were I trying to source a table I would be on a B & W square legged table like a flash. In fact I bought mine a year before I needed it because I was so keen.

Thanks for the input and yes the legs are one solid peice. All parts are there and in excellent shape. It even has the rail returns on the pockets. I wanted to attach a picture of the plate on the end but the forum says I have exceeded my quota. How do I fix that?

        Les:

I asked Ferret how to delete out old photos from my album and even he didn't know and couldn't figure out how to do it. There are a few people in your predicament and the only way is to start a new account with a new avatar I guess

Thanks Terry I will look into it on my iPad when I go to bed. In regards to the table I looked at today I talked to the installer and I have him down to $1,000 so I will offer the owner $2,000 tomorrow and see what happens.

I did it and it was really simple, but I forget what I did. Search the forum and you will find the answer.

In settings look down the left side and you will see attachments. Delete old ones and the way you go.

the cloth looks like standard club cloth and not 6811.
They dont do this cloth anymore i believe.
Good luck with the new table

Thanks for your reply. I kind of figured that, i guess I can try it for a while until i see if the table will work as i am a little tight with 15' for width, no problem on lenght.

Yes, you are tight at 15'. You will be 6" short each side but might manage. A cue ball hard up against the side cushion isn't going to be easy. You might need a short cue on the rack.

your wife must be happy then

seriously though, at least you well get better at not leaving yourself near the side cushions

I don't want to talk about it...LOL I built the house and made the room exactly for a 5x10 I figured I would never get a 6x12 LOL Oh well. I do have an open stair case on one side which will help

If you are a builder get demolishing. I had to take out a buttress to get mine in but have the required 5' all round.
