Just a quick update on the progress if anyone is interested..
The footings (27 x 18) took exactly 11 days to be dug by hand by one person. I am expecting someone from the authority to come and inspect the footing tomorrow and hopefully come next week I should have the concrete thrown in. So far, its looking good. Ill have some pics to share soon.

Dean, hi. My budget is 13-15K - that is excluding the table though. Mind you I got some really silly quotes ranging from 25K to 45K! In the end it took me 3 months to find this chap who has been highly recommended. I'm paying 9K for the labour and sourcing the building materials myself (cheaper imho). I might just over but lets see.

do-able especially with good tables being cheap to buy and delivered and fitted

There was no way for the digger to get to the back - unless it was air lifted.

do-able especially with good tables being cheap to buy and delivered and fitted

I did consider the log cabin route but what you'll find is the cabins of this size will have small partition walls which form the other half of the cabin. The partitions are like inner walls which means you will encounter problems when cueing. I know this because I spoke to one of the fitters of dunster house cabins. There are other manufactures out there but their prices are more or less the same as having one built with concrete.

there is also the aspect of a log cabin being a temporary structure and not a brick structure being "permanent"
