Green spots

I get asked many times where do you get the green marking spots for tables

the next best thing to no spots are these 8mm type , thin and very low cost , but don't forget they require ironing on , they will not stick well if you do not iron them in .

Green spots

I'll try to get a pic posted tomorrow of them on my table.....if I can find them! !!

I have looked at all the tables on my web site and the Camera just cannot pick them out , but you can see them as they are slightly lighter green in colour , the best one I can show you is this photo of a 8ft diner

the light being from a doorway behind is just reflecting off them they are small so very hard to see from a distance , making them unobtrusive when lining up a shot , so less distraction than a white or black spot

Also look at thommo335 table in link below scroll down and click on the 2nd to last photo of the table when I have finished it with the templates in the pocket
the first photo has 12mm white spots on that the other firm put on for comparison .

LOL I actually have the green spots which I purchased from a company here called FG Bradley's. I tried them on my last table and as Geoff says you can see them but they did nothing for me. I found a White Cayrola window marker which is washable. My new table looks great all markec out in white.

On my table here I just mark them with a marker pen- the ones we use on the whiteboards.

From memory I think they are black. Might be blue. The cloth has been stretched so it doesn't matter about not being washable. A recloth is so cheap here that I wouldn't bother too much. Just get it recovered!

Spots are put on to protect the cloth
Especially when you line the balls up the black and pink and blue spots take some hammer ,
a dent will appear in the cloth under the ball first on the black spot , as impact of the ball is transferred at equal impact from the side to the base of the ball in a millisecond just before the ball is shot off it's spot it impacts into the cloth .

and the reason no spots used on TV , they replace the cloth every three days so it will make no difference e to them , but for a club or Home use

the spots are put on for a reason , by using these smaller spots that are really office code spots , they are much thinner than normal snooker spots and you can replace them on a regular basis and iron them in to make them even more flush with the cloth , and at only 8mm they are really small , the green helps them blend into the cloth and make a table appear from a distance to have no spots on at all .

I sometimes have the job of re-stretching a match table cloth that has been used without spots on , and to put it on another table in the snooker club , when I look at the black and pink spots it is nearly worn through , and that's because of not putting a spot on to protect the cloth .

This is one of the main things in fitting that really nags at me , no spots and marking out in white , just because they see it on TV , they want it the same .

I will have to see if I can find some of those spits. I have very small ones probably around 1/2" but too thick. Hard to get the ball to stay on them. These ones that ou wet the back and stick them on.

Geoff, is there a standard Amongst table fitters or anywhere in the rules as to how thick the lines marking out the baulk area should be, as I saw a match(kind of flashback sequence) of Steve Davis winning a tourney ( UK Championship)and the lines looked about an inch thick lol.
