  • Transporting A Full Sized Snooker Table - Help!

    Hi Everyone

I have just bought an antique full sized snooker/billiards table as a present for my partner. I must confess that although I like snooker, I don't really know much about it.... (at the moment anyway!). The table is a 'H Nelmes & Co' one.

The problem is that I bought it at an auction in Glasgow and must move it to Lanark about 35miles away and the auction house is putting me under pressure to remove it - understandably since it's rather large. It has 5 slates and can be dismantled but I am struggling to find anyone who would be willing to take on the job amongst the local carrier companies. Can anyone recommend a good company in the Glasgow/Edinburgh area please? Also, does this sort of job require a specialist or just a team of strong removal people?

    Thanks for any pointers!

    Lucy

I would get someone experienced to do the dismantle and move and rebuild, when dismantled bits can go missing.

sorry I don't know any billiard fitters up that way, hopefully someone will be on soon with a good contact for you.

When you have it fitted, take pictures and share with us here, we love seeing new installations
    Up the TSF! :snooker:

Does Maryfield still post on here (Bill)?

Think they were based that way.

I've spoken to a local fitter . He can quote you for dismantle , transport ....erecting table and a new cloth etc if needed . You don't have enough posts for a PRivate messaging for me to send you details

You can email me at fiba12004@yahoo.com and il pass you his contact details etc .

If you do decide to get a fitter from England it would be best to try and sort out a figure before hand as many fitters will sting you 50p a mile and that's going home after the job as well

The person you want is Scott McIntosh who is a professional fitter and will also do the dismantle, transport and erection for you. I don't have contact info for him but he is on Facebook every day with photos of tables he has done and it looks like he is a busy man. He is trustworthy and will do a great job.

Lucy, you do realise the amount of space you need for one of these things?

Hello Philip - yes I certainly do now, but we're lucky enough to have the space (just....)! :-)

Thank you Byrom - I showed your post to my partner to make sure he realises how lucky he is!! I have to be honest, it was an impulse buy at an auction. The quality seems fantastic and the bidding stopped at £300 - I managed to get it at £320. We're lucky enough to be moving to a new place with a room big enough to accommodate it. I tried playing snooker last year and liked it but was frustrated by how hard it is - hopefully now I can learn properly! ;-)
