taking into account hardly any during the wars , it has buttons which to me date it early over a slide in panel type cushion .
so anytime from 1900 to before WW2 . it is a very rare find in 9ft form
I asked another Fitter who is in his 70s about those brass side brackets and he is not sure what they are for , he ruled out locking the top leafs on though .
Has 100 upper seen a catalogue with them in ?

My guess (from looking at pictures online) is that this table dates from somewhere between 1920-1950. Does this seem about right to you Geoff

It looks a lot like this illustration from the 1921 Riley catalogue, which also states:

"CUSHIONS.—A few of the designs show BUTTON pattern cushions, but these have now
been discarded on all COMBINE Tables. The sliding panel cushions are now fitted"

From this, it would seem more likely that the table was pre-1920, although not by much.

I saw a 6ft version in an antique shop in Rye last year, the guy did not realise but he did have the score board elsewhere in the shop
no sure about his price though £1,000

100-uper and Geoff. Many thanks for your help. On the subject of buttons, i have 16 sized to fit the cushion screw holes (24 holes though). I'm also missing 1 large one for the legs. Then i have 4 smaller buttons and a few 'home made' small buttons. Are they still available to buy or will i need to make some? I'll try and get a photo

Ask Brian how much he will make you a 9ft Riley diner for , I bet north of £5000 . maybe even £6500
but they are very well made out of top quality wood and slate .

wow, a 12ft diner. our 9ft diner is really very heavy to lift onto raised height so i imagine a 12ft table would be like a challenge from 'worlds strongest man' my wife's uncle is very good at woodworking so i'm hoping he can help me make some new buttons.
all this info points towards my table being quite an early model. perhaps thats why it has cast 'rise and fall' brackets not brass ones.
Either way, we're really happy. its a great dining table and also a reasonable as a snooker table. - the cushions feel 'dead' though so one day i'll get them sent away for new rubber (i guess thats what wrong??)

I should think so , I never seen the table but I think Brian said it was a 1 inch thick slate in three sections ? , still a considerable weight and it may be a two man job to lift one end at a time to the playing height
