id go for 6811 (he best grade if you can) rather than trying for #10

should last longer and give you less hassle to get fitted correctly. also, when well looked after before matches it can be very very quick too (though obviously not just quite as quick as the tv pro tables)

I would go for "WOE 6811 Tournament" best cloth on the market.

So from what i understand there are 3 types of 6811
          1)tournament
          2)gold
          3)silver

          right?

              Found somewhere in Nov' 06:

6811 Silver has been replaced with 6811 Club. Club cloth will have gold lettering on the cloth edge and will be bordered in red. The product quality and price are remaining unaffected from the previous 6811 Silver.
6811 Gold (30 oz) will now be called 6811 Tournament. The cloth quality is unchanged but the gold lettering will be bordered by blue threads. The prices will also remain unaffected from the previous 6811 Gold. However both Tournament and Club are now fractionally darker than the previous cloths.
Since 2007, there is also "6811 Tournament Select" cloth, which is used at all IBSF tournaments.

No 10, WSA specified. Difficult to fit, unreliable and a fit once and throw away. Very dependent on local climate. In ideal conditions, heated tables and so on, very fast and responsive to ball control. The construction of this cloth is quite different from the 6811 variations and does not wear too well.

6811, several grades. The top one Select, is just what it says and is selected from rolls already made. Not as fast as No 10 when newly fitted, but easier to fit. Then comes Gold Tournament, then Silver all 6811s but (unlike the competition who reject cloth that doesn't make the grade) the lesser cloth grades can be any weight and any speed. These cloths tend to slacken off over time and need re-tensioning to maintain their speed.

A W Hainsworth do a cloth (Match) with some of the better characteristics of the No 10 but is easier to fit and maintains its consistency better in different climate conditions. They also do a club cloth (Smart) that is equivalent for the higher grades of 6811. The Match cloth doesn't lose its tension over time so doesn't require stretching during its lifetime and is harder wearing than No 10 and 6811 Select.
I repost the above for anyone who may not have read the whole thread.

100-uper, unless I am much mistaken the weight (28 or 32 oz or whatever) is the nominal weight per running yard of cloth, for a normal bed length the width is about 78", so it is a yard at this width that is the so-called weight.

For anyone wanting a good, durable and reliable cloth for tournament conditions I recommend the Hainsworth "Match" cloth on the bed and the cushions.

I've got Hainsworth cloth on my table!
The club though not the match.
                  It's alright!

Ah, wise Moglet. This proves that I should never take the word of a wizened old billiards fitter, even if he looks as though he might be old enough to have invented billiard table cloth himself!

Peace my friend, I think it matters not a jot, all that has any relevance is the relative weight of the cloth (per whatever) yet even then it has little bearing on the performance of said cloth - there are other factors of far greater importance to consider.

Does anyone know whether there is much difference in cost between the Hainsworth and Strachan cloths? The Hainsworth match cloth sounds ok.

Has anybody played on both makes of cloth Strachen/Hainsworth?

For a suitable time to be able to say wich is the better cloth?

We at our club have 8 tables and they'll be needing refitting this summer, at least 4 of them.

We play on Strachen gold at the moment, whats the Hainsworth match like in comparrison? How hardy are both types of cloth if you where to compare them?

Is it worth changing from one to the other?

What we want is, as much speed as possible and a cloth that will last at least 10 years.

No! seriously now, speed and as much wear time as possible.

                              Anybody got any real idea?

                              Thanks

                              Brian.
