Rub some PVA wood glue in with your finger and clamp until dry. Any remaining gaps can be filled with Colron colored wax fillers. The cracks are natural shrinkage and unless the become any worse, I wouldn`t worry about them. I have been installing tables for 17 years.

I personally would use the plastic banding which you use on pallets. But that is because I have the tools for tightning these. If you can`t get hold of these, I would suggest the ratchet type straps which you may have seen. You get smaller versions of these which would be ideal. Alternatively you could cut out two pieces of wood to the profile you are clamping and use sash cramps.
