Steve post 56 looking back at the times and places i've gone to to play in clubs i find it funny what a waste of time it was for any advancement of my play in relation to the pro's , i've just looked at train fares from euston to your area next week , perfectly feasible and reasonable etc , maybe you should ask posters here to play and get the ball rolling so to speak to e.g. pay you a daily set fare to play on your table , just as reasonable and realistic as anything else i think , again just a thought.

I have had a few good players round already including some from far away. Not for solo practice though? I mean it’s an idea, I’m usually at work during the day so it is just sat there doing nothing!
Going back to Ding’s academy, if it’s only pros or Q school lot, I’m assuming they still have to pay for the use of the table like a normal club? I wonder what they charge down there? I can’t seem to find anything about costs at the moment… gotta be at least what? 10 pound an hour? Probably a lot more? I’m clueless when it comes to table costs! I only pay 1 pound an hour down my local club.

Steve post 63 , lets just say there was a set fee of 40 pound sterling for the day for individual practice to play on your table ( of course you set the fee ) and that covered us from a certain time in the morning or afternoon ( whether we arrived or not ) til a certain time in the evening to play on your table, no messing around with haggling etc, and the fee not too small to make it worth it for you, lets use a conservative estimate, if you only got 4 bookings a month, from people on here or local players around your area, thats roughly 2 grand a year for yourself, not too bad eh? and you could set it in a way to have it only when you’re there for your assurance to minimise any uncertainties and reimburse the customers account if something comes up for you if you have to go somewhere else.
Possibly best to keep it quiet to avoid any taxation legalities , no idea on that front , all seems feasible from here and much easier and better than going down the ‘ club route ‘ for most prospective players , what do you think ?

Then you have to remove running costs, there the light, room heating, table heating costs and the upkeep on the table itself. To keep it in A1 condition would probably mean changing the cloth a couple of times a year, assuming a few sessions a week. So that’s probably getting on for a grand a year at least. Probably not worth the hassle…

Fair enough Steve , i said to Singh Suny the owner or manager of the Dunstable club that the tables there were as good if not better than those i played on at the q school , probably best to stick to there for me as all those other factors as you said are taken care of , no worries , wish Dunstable had a damn train station though ! got a car but the trains easier.

I've been quiet on this post but am interested in playing on better tables. Steve, thanks for telling everyone how crap I am on your table
Seriously though if people want some star table exposure somewhere i'd be game for a day trip. Would probably book ahead, get the train and have some beers and food afterwards.
P.S always found Star tables to play a lot easier than Aristocrats, guess it's just personal preference but remember when I used to play frequently on Selby and Wakelin's star tables finding Aristocrats to be much more tricky."just tap it in":snooker:

Realised in a recent Comp at Danger Steve's club how out of touch I am with competitive snooker, I lost 3 frames being 40+ up with 3 reds left and my former self wouldn't have let that happen.
Also playing in a local league around working mens clubs on poor and such varied tables doesn't lend itself well to trying to compete on rapid match tables.
Perhaps us TSF'ers could go to Sheffield or another top club for the day sometime, have a couple hours practice solo on the tables and then play a few frames. I hear what you're saying about wanting to practice and pot ball after ball but the social would be fun too
