The dates and venues for the International Billiards and Snooker Federation World Amateur Championship and World Under 21 Championship have been announced.

The World U21 Men Snooker Championship will be played in Kish Island, Iran from 3rd - 14th August.

The World Amateur Snooker Championship (Men, Women & Masters) will be in Hyderabad, India from 15th - 29th November.

The dates for the World Billiards will be announced shortly by the IBSF.

The IBSF have also announced a new contract with ball supplier Saluc SA until 31st December 2010 and Saluc (Aramith) are looking to produce a new set of balls especially for the IBSF tournaments.

    ----------

This is good news to hear, the IBSF have been rather silent in the last couple of months so glad to see they've confirmed the dates. For anybody going to Kish Island, I guess they'll need their sunglasses.

Will you go and watch it?

I hope that did what they did last year and have live streaming, 'IBSF TV'. I think they only did it at the last World U21 but it was good to watch and they had really good live streaming and live commentary from Nic Barrow.

        2009 World under 21s - Kish Island - Iran 3-14 August.

Sadly it looks like this year's World Under 21s is running into problems.
Partly because of the recent trouble in Iran, but also because of the time and cost of travel.

Several countries have already confirmed they're not going. Wales, Ireland, Malta being amongst them.

The UK Foreign Office is now telling UK Passport holders NOT to travel to Iran so that would also take England, Scotland and Northern Ireland out of the event, even if they'd planned to go originally.

Wales made their decision weeks ago before the trouble, based on the very high travel costs.

Sadly this is another World U-21s that is heading for disaster for the IBSF!
As of now there are 8 countries who have made the decision not to send any players and other countries are currently evaluating the situation.
One of the problem's with getting to Kish Island is that no one can get a direct flight to it ,you can get a flight to Tehran or Dubai and from there you have to make arrangements to get to Kish, hardly the ideal situation. There is a travel company that deals with flights to Kish but they seem to be difficult to get hold of as they do not answer their emails or telephone (enquiry@southtravel.com) This was given by the IBSF to all its members.
Also with Israel being excluded from entering Iran how can the IBSF call it a World U-21s in fact this shows complete incompetance on their behalf as they should have known this when the bid was put to them in Austria.
Regarding the World Billiards rumour has it that Myanmar is going to be the venue again another volatile region of the world ,just makes me wonder are the people governing the IBSF serious about staging competitions or are they idiots !!!

I have to say that the IBSF choose very strange places for their tournaments to be held. I have no idea what they are trying to achieve with putting the events in places like Iran with the problems happening as posted above. Where will they go next year, Antarctica?

the state of affairs even down here is really bad.

i mean in hyderabad where the wc is going to be held, the local players do not have proper place to practice and there haven't been any local tournaments here for 3 years now,the president of the local association is just bothered about what mileage and media coverage he gets rather than being honestly interested in helping young talented players.

those who go against the association get suspended and thats the end of their snooker career as they will not be allowed to represent the state at the national championship.

i am lucky to have the resources to travel for tournaments around india and spare some money for some decent coaching, but for those who are less fortunate ,playing high level snooker just remains a dream.

i might too be suspended from playing because of this post but things need to change now,its high time, there is a high possibility that all the players might get together and stop the world championship from taking place.
RIP NOEL, A TRUE TSF LEGEND.

for example ,last year a friend of mine won the state championship and qualified to represent my state at the national championship (direct entry) but it so happened that his entry was stopped and some other player who has good terms with the president was sent and my friend had to play the qualifying rounds to qualify for the main draw.

they make statements that they will make the infrastructure so good that the world pro championship could be shifted to hyderabad, build a arena better than wembley and many more such statements, the ground reality is that the tables at the club owned by the association does not have a nap on the cloth as it has not been changed for over 2 years, there is no toilet or washroom,is 20 miles away from the city and half the time there is no electricity because the electricity bill is never paid.

The EBSA seem to have no trouble when it comes to staging events ,in fact countries seem to be putting in bids as far forward as 2011. On the other hand the IBSF, who have 76 countries as members, seem unable to find a suitable venue for their events this year.
I would'nt be suprised if it is North Korea for 2010
It would seem to me that the IBSF should now look for another venue because of the exclusion of Israel a member of IBSF.

from what i heard they demand a huge sum of royalty money from the country which bids for it plus off the record favours for the office bearers, lot of politics and corruption involved, thats what i've been told.

Never heard of any country paying them to host an event and I'm possitive you won't find any country saying otherwise .
On the issue of politic's it seems that you are mixing the 2 organizations up,that should be obvious from the selection of countries that are hosting IBSF events this year.
