  • Pro-Ams in the North?

    Hi
Does anybody know any pro-ams held in the North of England? I live in Liverpool.

I can't pro-ams advertised anywhere apart from the Open Pro-ams at Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds.

eg Club Snooker, Preston? Liverpool Snooker Academy? George Scotts, Liverpool? Surely there must be some around Manchester?

I'm not ready (or rich enough) to shell out £££'s on the Prestatyn PIOS or the Pro-Ticket EASB...yet!!!

    Thanks!
    :snooker:

i play in the earlstown and district snooker league and play at the conservetive club evey now and again. this is going to be the 1st time they hold this comp then its going to be run on a yearly basis. there are going to be some very good local players playing so it should be a good standard of snooker played.

if you go to www.eadsl.co.uk click on league selection then click on the warrington snooker league scroll down to the ecc open individual tournament and click on that then click on players in the top left it will give you a list of players entered. i personally know a few of them wayne brown ex main tour player still on the pios tour alan dawber, scott wall regular 100 plus break players who are both very good. craig steadman, michael wild both well known players simon morriss played dennis taylor in the china/thai open in the 80s early 90s had it in him to go all the the way . surprised justin astly asnt entered. i am right thinking you are a very good player yes 100 plus break player regular or you will not get very far playing some of these players.

Dave, you can enter via the website or contact Jeff Robinson the tournament director. If you need his details direct I can PM them to you. Oh and if you do enter tell him Rob Spencer referred you. (thats me). It will be a good comp. and a good learning curve for any player. £25 its not a fortune and you are guaranteed a few matches.

are there any local league players taking part then?
Anyway, because there are so few pro-ams these days the best players in the north west will sniff out any comp they can. I am desperate for decent match play, no disrespect to my pals but I aint going to raise my game unless I play the likes of these players. The format is a round robin so your guaraunteed decent amount of table time anyway.

yes there are a couple of local league players amongst them, but these are regular century makers as well,,, but if your looking for quality match practice , plus like you said you will get at least 9 frames

there are a few in the list that play in the local league yes paul dean, alan dawber, scott wall, simon morris plus a few of the others play either in the warrington league or league around manchester all -20/-50 players. alan dawber for instance i have known for 20 years plus played in the same team as him. wayne brown used to be ranked 60 odd in the world also played him same with scott wall played him a lot through the years i am not trying to put you off you might be a good player you havent said but these players arnt the kind of players who give you 30/40 visits to the table like playing in the club you will be lucky to get 5/6 if you are a novice they will wipe the floor with you.

what kind of standard are you.

difficult to say to be honest mate, far from a novice though, I'm easily hitting 40's and 50's most frames I play, I've had numerous 100 breaks, though not in pro-am match play must admit. I'm a rusty has-been at the moment, dusting off the cobwebs! This ECC comp standard sounds way above where I am right now.

i dont know if your getting 40s/50s most frames you play you should be in with a decent chance. if you get a 50 break every frame you would win the world championship cant remember who said that but someone did. if i where you i would enter and see how it go's i played at earlstown consevetive club in the league 3 weeks ago and to be honest it isnt the greatest the tables are in good order just been recovered and they where running quite slow but the floor is very uneven all around the tables plus the table near the window the floor runs out that much they had to jack the table up at the black spot end so its level but this as made the table to high and you can realy tell when your playing the table is just way to high but other than that its a nice club.

alan lives round the corner from me we went to the same school i used to play him alot when he maneged the triangle snooker hall. where did you watch the match they have played 3 times altogether 2-1 to wayne it stands at the moment but alan was getting 25 start. so it just shows the standard of players in the comp alans a very good player so getting a 25 start shows the class of wayne plus craig steadman is on there and michael wild 2 players that can clear the table in 1 visit.
