  • Chandler's Ford 'Roll-Up'

Down in the deep South, Chandler’s Ford Snooker Club hosts an U21 comp known as the Roll-Up. The new series, the ninth, has just started and continues every Saturday at 1pm. None of the guaranteed £1,000 prize money is paid out on the day but is ‘rolled up’ and paid out to the top 15 ranked players at the end of the 20 weeks with the winner receiving £200. Points are awarded for each match won. If we have more than 16 runners some of the early matches are best-of-three but generally it is a best-of-five knockout with a best-of-three Plate for first round losers.

The Roll-Up is handicapped but is weighted towards the better players. We do have a maximum handicap so unless you are capable of knocking in 30s you will probably struggle. Our current series, which ended on 8th July, featured 16 players who have made competitive half-centuries of which 4 have chalked up tons.

Players you may be aware of are former England international Mike Finn who puts in an occasional cameo appearance, Alex Dunkley, who played on the EASB Junior Tour, and Nick Jennings and Dan Hildyard who have both reached the EASB U15 knockout stages. And we must not forget eight-year-old wonderkid Shane Castle who recently made his first 30 break.

Chandler’s Ford is situated halfway between Winchester and Southampton just off the M3. I caught club-owner Jim Everett off-guard yesterday and he agreed that if any of you Northern superstars find yourselves enjoying the sun in our part of the world over the Summer and fancy a tournament in our air-conditioned club he will waive the usual membership requirement and just charge the £6 entry fee. Weekly reports can be found on juniorsnooker.com and sotonsnooker.com. For more info ring the club on 02380 254834
