  • Pontin's Spring Festival 2010

The Festival has started today with a lot of very hungover players.

Very few pros here. Matt Selt, Michael Judge, Nigel Bond, Joe Delaney and a couple of others, plus former pros llike Mike Hallett, Les Dodd, Darren Clarke, Jason Pegram etc

    Around 310 entries overall

We'll have all the results on Global throughout the week.

When I played in these in the 80's the preliminary rounds were always best of 3 frames. Do they still do that until they get down to the last 32 or so?

Of course there used to be over 600 players usually in those days

Hi Terry - those days are long gone sadly

Best of 5s in the Open and 20-40s. not sure about the juniors and masters events but I think it's all best of 5 until final then Open and 20-40 is at least best of 7 I think

Thanks Janie. Would like to be there but budget just doesn't allow more than one trip per year and I already did this one

        Cheers,

what a shame. that tourny in the 70s and 80s was packed. i remember higgins taking all comers on through the night some fantastic matchs.changed when j.williams and co tried to turn into something it was'nt. the standard greeting in those days was (still in?) no i'm in the plate.

Yeh, JW, lovely man. He was enough to frighten all the younger ones. I'm surprised that old git is still there, the miserable old sod. Might be more enjoyable if you didn't have him running the control desk. What a total arse that man is.

I agree with the above forum member will the global website update the results of the Under 20's and the open would be interested who taking part, however I have been told that there are about 300 competitors in the open this year.

Yes we will be. When I went for results this afternoon, it was busy at the desk and I was told to come back on Tuesday... so watch this space!
